Ooh noo, Amewica has da fat people! GASP!

Look, stop. Stop ragging on us about this. The percentage of obese people in this country is about 40%, so sue us. Every country has its problems, and until you all get rid of your own problems, you've got no right to criticize us.

You know, I'll bet this would be less of an issue if fat people weren't seen as obscene and grotesque. Admit it, ladies, you don't say "God, I want to sex him so bad," when you think of an overweight person. And I'll bet most guys here don't think of large women as sexy (I do, but that's me. 'Stikk's a Chubby Chaser! ). At least a small percentage of the bitching is due to asthetics.

Now this doesn't mean you shouldn't still try to stay active. Be like Dipstikk! Walk every day for at least an hour, bike whenever you can!

But seriously, until you solve your own country's problems, stop bitching about us.

Now, for the record, I don't want any fat bashing here. None, sie verstehen? Remember who's posting this.

Har har har, right on Dip. Going on looks stinks anyway. And I don't undertand why people have to just 'bitch' at the US, I mean, I've seen my fair share of heavier then normals (I am one! ) in the UK so why people have ter pick on America is beyond me...

Do you realize the irony of that statement?

And for the most part, the people who bitch about Americans being overweight are the Americans themselves. I, actually totally ****ing hate the fact that America is 40% obese, and it has nothing to do with aesthetics. A majority of obese people are unhealthy, lazy, and ****ing gluttonous while people in other nations are nothing but skin and bones. I'm not gonna lie, it pisses me off.

Of course, I realize that there are a lot of exceptions. Not all fat people are lazy gluttons, a lot of it has to do with metabolism and availablity of healthy food and that sort of thing.

So yeah. That's my 2 cents. And for the record, it's not fat-bashing that I want to take part in. I don't think fat people are evil or anything KUH-RAAZY like that, but I absoluely despise the gluttony many of the obese people in America display.

Yea thats kinda ironic coming from an American point of view. Arn't you guys sticking your nose in everyone's bussiness while your own country is falling apart? Exactly... now...

It can be in your genes to get fat easily... but that is not an excuse to BE fat. If being fat realy gets to you that bad, then stop stuffing your face and start to work out. If you want to lose weight, you need dicipline. Anyone who has the balls to throw away their lifestyle to lose weight, more power to ya. But even the people who just are fat and say: Yea I'm fat, so what? Get out of my face before I sit on you!
I mean, being fat isn't that big of a deal if it isn't threatning your vital functions.

Nah, fat people are okay. Most of the fat guys I knew we're realy cool guys which I laughed with for hours on end, so I won't bash on fatties (oh, now I just did. Damn! :P)

Nah, the people I want to bash, are the downright f*cktards that are screaming 'I can't stop eating! I can't stop eating! OMG I can't stop eating!' while stuffing their face with their 6th Big Mac at the goddamn McDonalds! And then when they get to a point where it starts to become a threat to their health... THEY SUE THE MCDONALDS BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T SAY FAST FOOD WILL MAKE YOU FAT!!!
Seriously... people like that should me shot and fed to the 3rd world countries...

Yay...

I ain't too sure of my weight.
Last time I checked it was 143
And yeah, Havoc. I agree with the Mickey D's thing. I saw the documentary "Super-size," when that guy ate BK for...months.
And people do get fat from genes from your family. Is your problem, but you can work it out.

Hmm...I'd expect dubblyuw surly would've posted here, but I see he hasn't

I am Skinny, and quite fit, and I sit at my computer or tv almost 90% after I get home, I eat a fair amount, and I am the tallest in my family. Personally, I don't understand it. But I'm not complaning. I have never competed in sports either, besides PE, which I'm not even in this year. I get all my exercise done at school I guess.

It also may be because I'm not a Junk Food Junkie.
Or maybe I have a high Metabolism.

The way I see it (and biology freaks and whatever may correct me on this if they want to ): I never did sports either, ever. So my body is build with that in mind. It can process huge amounts of food and calls, but knows my body doesn't need many and disposes the ones I don't need.
Now, with that in mind, you'd say that anyone who has been doing a lot of sports from a young age has a lot more chance to get fat. Because once a person would stop working out, the body would still store energy which is normaly used again with the workout.

So: No sport + food = Fit Body. A lot of sport + food + stopping sport = FAT!

I heard on the show Penn & Teller Bullshit that weight loss companies go to hospitals, find athletes who have been put out of action for a few months and pay them to eat donuts and put on weight. They take the 'before' photos, give them a few months to get back to their normal weight (which, being athletes and people with good metabolisms, comes easy) and then take the 'after' photo.

The results are the insanely unrealistic "before they used our diet pills" and "after they used them" photos used for the diet pill (and the like) company's commercials.

Anyway, I do agree with Dipstikk's view that every country has its problems. Some our more obvious than others, like America's obesity. It makes us an easy target, but some of it is deserved, which would be where I agree with Kimon a bit.

You have to also take into account that we are one of the most work-driven countries. Go ahead, say we're lazy, but work is the highest priority here. Our quality of life is both bettered and degraded by this. It's bettered for obvious reasons, but the degradation is a little less obvious. We have such little time to spend with family, to enjoy hobbies and the like, and we certainly have little time for working out. This lack of time drives us to buy the fast food, takes away exercise, and takes away from quality sleep, which is needed for energy to exercise and health in general. We basically work ourselves to death on numerous levels.

40%? Those are old statistics, I'm sure of it, because last time I checked it's 60% obesity. The USA is a fat country. The diet of the average American is a KILLER, proven fact. Even if you aren't fat, the diet will still get you in the end.

Why shouldn't we be talking about it? It's shocking. If we were to stop talking about it, it would be completely unnatural, hiding our true feelings, which is that it's shocking and awful. It's not a good thing, it's not simply allowable, it's not something people should just accept and move on. 60% of a country is obese! That's a record breaking statistic. That's not something you just ignore/accept, it's not something you pass off. It needs people to be talking about it, because when people are talking about it and considering it as a major issue, that's when pressure groups, expose' journalists, and various other volunteers concerned about their fellow Americans do what they can to help the situation.

Okay, now I'm curious. What is the percentage of overweight or obese Americans? Like, recently, as in 2005. Has it really gotten to be 60%?

I would just like to add, that I think obesity isn't something to brush off. If your body fat is billowing off the sides of your pants, and you look like you'd be more at home in a tank at Sea World, then you have a problem. Your body is not made to carry 300, 400 pounds.

Overweight? Fine. People can be healthy and still be overweight. I'm speaking from experience here.

But, there IS a difference between chubby, overweight, and obese. People don't seem to realize that body size is subjective, and then lump us into one group.

Ug. Releasing this kind of information is also dangerous to people's health. This would concern the obese, but also the perfectly healthy. People are all concern of their appearance. Practical jokers make it even more difficult. One could go up to a girl and say "Hey Jessica, did you notice the lard on your arms?" And now, Jesse here would agree and go on this insane diet that either causes her to not eat anything or throw up everything she ate. Then, before it's too late, she get's into a condition (which I cannot remember the term for) that needs months of training to get her back to normal. That makes America more unhealthy.
And it isn't McDonald's fault either. Something may being going on in the family and food is the only thing they could hold onto.
Seriously, the only reason why they say 60% of Americans are obese and not 10% of people are too skinny is because everyone knows fat is unhealthy. But magenzines and comic strips say skinny is good. If they released that, it would mean tons of money from companies go down the drain, and America will increase the homeless percentage. We can't go back now. We are now in a perdictable future. But I still have hope.

Be honest, would you rather come home to a slim attractive girl or a lazy obese one ? This is a cruel world and from my experiences people will nock you when they see any flaw of your body. It makes me angry when i see celebrities obsessively trying to make themselves perfect, diet pills and surgery when theres people getting upset becuase they want to look better.

I prefer someone's behavior above looks, but preferably a little bit of both.

And yes. People obsessed over how they look should be shot. If that is the biggest thing in your life to worry about, then you do not deserve to live.

Ironically, I would go with the one who is treating me better. I care nothing about people's looks. If you are too lazy to do anything and don't do anything I like to do, nope, you are not it. If you care to much in making me like your appearance, nope, not you either. It makes me annoyed about people who care do much about the outside and not the inside.
But I agree with used. The first one. The one that is normal and cares about her actions, not her looks.

Don't forget that attractiveness is a cultural thing. 200 years ago a well-proportioned woman was considered the picture of beauty - if you were skinny it meant you didn't have the money to eat. Now it costs more to eat healthy than to eat every meal in a fast food restaurant or pull out a tv dinner. This culture still exists in some countries - for a humourous example view the the trailer for the movie Phat Girlz.

It it important to remember that this is not all to do with people's choices. A significant proportion of that 40 or whatever percent are poor people who are working three jobs and don't have time to go home and cook a healthy dinner for their kids - they'd love to do it if they could but all are able to do is pop over to the drive-thru.

That's what I'm trying to say! In my school, in one week, every Monday, Wendsday, and Friday we have pizza. People complain about how we need healthier choses and do nothing. But I know the reason why they do this is because Domino's has cheap prices. But shouldn't the kids' health be a main priority? But then again, where would the education funding go? Either something's wrong with the economy or my school needs more money.
