Wahwahwah your tshirt isn't "scene"...

I went and bought a batman tshirt the other day. Yes I did. Just a big batman logo in the middle there. A good tshirt I thought.

I'd seen it before on someone, they went for the "baggy" look and it looked quite good, so I bought the tshirt in size X. I'd looked at the sizing chart on the back and worked out that their size X wasnt actually that big but was roughly the size I wanted. So I went ahead and bought it, thinking yeah this is all cool, a nice baggy batman tshirt for my badself.

Then on the train back home, one of my emofag friends was rummaging through my purchases, and suddenly said. "X?" ... "Extra large?"

I just started blankly. "Yes" I retorted. "Is there some kind of problem officer?".

He replied "You do know that there was SMALL there".

OH MY FUCKING GOD. SMALL. OH MY GOD. I MUST ONLY WEAR SMALL, TIGHT TSHIRTS SO THAT I MAY BE SCENE! WHAT TRAVESTY HAVE I COMMITTED?

My reaction to that was simply "Yes... but I didn't want the small, hence why I bought the extra large."

Then one of my other emofag friends demonstrates the shallowness of his character with "what is the point in that?".

E X C U S E ME? What is the POINT? The point is mister, it's not "wrong" to wear something that you don't consider to be "scene".

The whole trip back was one big debate about basically how I wasn't allowed to enjoy my new tshirt, and must be made to feel bad about it, because I chose a size that wasnt acceptable to their idea of the "emo look". And all the way I was trying to explain to them how it was my choice.

I had it ALL DAY shopping with them too. Not just on the train. I got constantly told why my choices were bad, or I was made to feel bad about the things I liked. I was very close to telling them to fuck right off if they think their opinions should be the law.

In fact that whole group of people I was out shopping with were being total pricks all day long, I have no idea why either. Normally they're fine.

Discuss:

How really very annoying it is when people decide to be a bastard about your clothes/appearance.
Things I can do to get revenge on them.
Anything else about closed-minded people.

I absolutely HATE people like that. I'l decide what I will and won't wear, thank you very much. No stupid pop idol or 'fashion expert' is going to tell me that the pants I'm wearing are 'SOOOO last season' (seriously, I'l smack you if you ever say that in my face :P).

Close minded people are the most stupid kind we have on this planet. The 'caddle' kind that can't think for themselfs and need to have everything demonstrated so they can copy it to look 'cool' or to be save from harm.

As for getting revenge, I dunno. Maybe ask them who they are to decide what you can wear?

Amber, I think you should start wearing less clothing.

What I don't like is when people flip because you bought a band shirt/patch/button or something at a major store... it's as if you're committing some crime against the Indie Gods. If it's a product for any major current band, then it's going to be overpriced no matter where you buy it, even if it's out of some hole-in-the-wall records store or no-name website. As for older bands that actually DID stand for something, they're all either broken up or dead, so who the fuck cares? But the other stores... they're independent, even though they carry mainstream products, so buying from them is the right thing to do, regardless of inconvenience.

Because driving an extra 30 miles to get to a store I wouldn't go to normally is so punk rock.

It's like you have to options. Go to Hot Topic, buy a shirt for $17, take it home with you. OR you could pay $7 shipping for a $10 shirt from some random website that you've never heard of, and wait 4-10 weeks, depending on the legitimacy of the website, for your treasured article of clothing. I'll take Hot Topic. Give me convenience or give me death. Oh, the irony.

Seriously, though. Who cares if Hot Topic is owned by the same company as Abercrombie? They're supplying a service to an ever-growing demand. I don't necessarily agree with all of the products that Hot Topic sells, nor do I enjoy many of the people who shop there, but it's just capitalism, folks. It's how it fucking works.

I still shop at indie websites and record stores. I just fail to see the problem with stopping by the mall and purchasing a shirt or a button if I'm in the neighborhood.

Generally, I prefer long sleeve shirts than to T's I suppose I have an attraction to concealment of my physical being.

But in the matter of the whole "in" thing, I totally diasagree and this is what have to say,

But really, sucks to them. Here was me under the assumption that emofags would be all like "Don't judge me!" and such.

And I'm not joking about the dress.

Yeah, I don't really hang out with people too concerned with fashion on the whole. Sometimes my geek friends tell me off for wearing too much (or any) colour. There was one time a few months back when my gay friends told me off for dressing too straight (it was a Volcom t-shirt. I don't normally wear surfing brands but it was one t-shirt I liked). So what I did, was I told them to piss off. And that's what you should do the next time anyone tries to criticise your fashion sense.

"Scene" or "Sceno" is elitist emo, it's just the trendsetting kids who wear tight everything, have their emo-hair spikey at the back, and spend most of their day believing that they are THE shit.

They're mostly all psychopathic wankers, and I don't like them. Being straight edge I generally have to stay away from them anyway, especially if I have X's on my wrists, as they hate straight edge for no apparant reason.

I mean, I'm emo yeah, I have the hair, the pink clothes, the girls hoodies, the makeup, the fingerless gloves... but I don't follow it religiously like these guys do. I just blend in... but people take that as their license to start telling me what to wear these days. It's really starting to get annoying.

Yeah, I've ecounted some people who appeared to me to be a bit strange on jugding on what I wore. It happend one day when I was wearing these black jeans and a long sleeved black shirt with a splash of maroon, suddently these chavs came up to me and calling me something, which I never heard before and I don't what it means, apearntly it was an offensive name. Then looking at the fashion desgner's name in small text printed on my shirt and asking mentioning his name in a question which I forgot, but I didn't know who he was, I only just like the shirt.
And they come again calling me a rockstar and asking me wheres my gutiar. Of course they dressed different from what I whore, but then again, taking the piss becuase I looked different to them. A bit silly realy.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... The the term straight edge fits this urban dictionary definition:

Straight edge is basically living a clean life without drugs, drinking and casual sex. It's living a poison free and keeping yourself safe. It is a choice and it does not make you better or worse than anyone. We all make choices and some choose to be straight edge and some don't. Yes, it's true that some people will stop being sXe when they turn 21 but that is just another choice. Straight Edge is a way of life but has now been formed into a trend. Out there, there are true edgers.

From what I've gathered, my friend, you do all these things.

Anywho, Nate, you reminded me of a bad memory of two girls calling me a "poser" for wearing some shirt by a skating brand and a purse by a surfing brand. Garg, something like that certainly wouldn't bother me now, but the fact that it made me mad then makes me angry thinking about it now.

I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs, and I'm a vegatarian and have been for quite a while now. I gave up the weed ages ago. In fact I remember saying here that I no longer take it.

And straight edge is not necessarily living without casual sex - if you look up the more reliable definition on wikipedia, you'll see that it doesn't necessarily even involve giving up meat, the real heart of it is about not doing drugs, drinking or smoking.

Also I might add the American definition of sXe and what it means to be sXe is very different from the British version...
