More sub forums

I have recently returned from a forum which is considerably busier than ours. Theyt never have zero members on, and always have new posts. I think this is the effect from their large selection of sub forums to choose from. While we make take to just these popular ythrreads top fit these needs, smore sub forums for fitting these topics may be key to OWF's growth. So, i no you never promised me a rose garden, but his may just work to business, peoples.

In our case, more subforums will only drain members. Nothing is more anoying then to browse 62 subforums to get all the posts. Besides, what do we need more subforums for?

- Rupture Farms Stuff
- Brewery Stuff

There's no point you saying that this forum needs more subforums if you don't also suggest what they should be.

I certainly can't think of any we absolutely need.

No, I disagree. This forum may have many members, but we don't. We have few. IMO this would kill the OWF.

I wouldn't really have a problem with it if there was a category that absolutely needed to be made and would better the forums, except for the annoyance(sp?) of having to browse more places in OT. But there's no sub-forums that need to be made.

By adding more sub forums we might get a slight increase in numbers of people interested in others things other than oddworld, would that be a good thing? I doubt it. This would get rid of members who are interested in Oddworld as any newbs would be interested in other things other than ODDWORLD. I'm quite sure everyone uses other forums for their other interests The whole point of Oddworld Forums is for people to come and share in the ODDWORLD expereince, the sub forums are merley add ons.

Well, considering there has been hardly any info given to us from OWI, and oddworld isn't the most popular of games (unlike H@LOOO00OOO!!!!!33311111!!!!!!), I don't think the oddworld part is thre thing to worry about now. OT is our most active part and whats great about it, is that it has such a bigger range than oddworld. The problem is is that there is nothing left to be discussed oin GD because everything has already been discussed, while OT concerns the world around us which changes every day in small, but big ways.

Yes, but in case you havn't noticed? This is an ODDWORLD forum. Not an OFF TOPIC forum. Oddworld is the main subject, and the Off Topic area is just there as a secondary. So yea, it happens to do well right now, thats because, like I said, Oddworld has been quiet lately.
I would not like to see this forum turn into some all general discussion board, cuz it's not. If you want to talk about Halo, go to a Halo forum. If you want to talk about the American Army Draft, go to a board that deals with that. It would be nonesence to have those boards around here.

Yea, and an off-topic forum wouldn't do well, if there's no concrete subject to talk about. In this forum, Oddworld is the subject.

OT is fine as it is. We're not a Halo fan forum, why create a Halo subforum to draw in Halo fans? Why do we want Halo fans? We're an Oddworld forum for Oddworld fans.

Insert whatever you want where 'Halo' is; that was an example.

I didn't even know you had mentioned Halo is this thread, I just used it as my example because it came to mind first.

Or maybe I subconsciously saw you write it as I scrolled down the thread to the reply box after reading the title post.

Substitute all the "Halo"s in my post for some other non-Oddworld yet specific to a subject topic, if you really want to.

And now that "Oddworld" is dead, what is going to sustain us? A forum NEEDS new members in order to survive, and with OWI fading into distant memory people aren't going to be googling it any more. People come and go all the time, and with the fact that we're getting little and eventually no new members, that fact will be the demise of this place if we don't start doing something about it. When a forum starts losing people, it's like a chain reaction, and unless new people come along to fill their shoes and keep the action going it just results in the end of the forums.

I agree with what you are saying on principle, it's something that I'm sure Alcar would agree with. But the fact is we're facing a major problem here (well, major in the scale of the forums anyway), and it needs to be dealt with. We either diversify or there won't be any Oddworld Forums left to preserve.

I must agree with Dino here.

I've always been for the diversification of the forums, but unfortunately, it's not my decision to make. Ultimately, executive decisions lies in the hands of the one who pays for the place... which I guess is how it should be. Still, it's not so much that we need more "sub-forums" for already existing forums, it's just that we need to reach a broader audience. It's something that I really want to see.

I think that we can all agree that we don't need to attract any rabid Halo fans, though.

Hmm, I'm still a bit hesitant to say we should broaden the forums on whole for a reason or two. But it really doesn't matter as I don't even really participate in any game discussions.

Ah. I think I see what your getting at. So many gamers out there are... well, let's say... an unsavory bunch. We don't want our forum turning to smut, that's for sure.

Still, some form of expansion would be nice.

Well, maybe it would be an idea, since Oddworld is known for it's outstanding 3D graphics and art, to expand with that approuch in mind. To attract especialy 3D artists.
Just an idea that popped into my head a few seconds ago :P.

Hey that sounds great Havoc :-D Then i could get some help from more skilled 3D-artists. But then the forum should be game-3D oriented. Like, we don't want to discuss how some guy just made a lung in 3D for medical purposes or something...

Well I dunno, I'd say that Oddworld is so special partialy because of it's outstanding graphics. Maybe a CG-oriented subforum would be a good asset and a place where people can share any kind of 3D work, as long as it's actualy a piece of art or something the like. Not just a cone or a spined version of a triangle. Actualy renderd art. There are a lot of very experienced artists out there, I know that for a fact, and I personaly wouldn't mind seeing some people here who might even get inspired to do some Oddworld 3D works.

I'm sorry formbringing this up, but we could make the RPG expandable as well to non rpers like myself using the shop hack, expandable as in, sort of a game, kind of like neopets, and it would be very oddworld related, so who knows? I know coders will be hard to find, but it's just a thought.

Using the shop hack would be an option. But we'd have to see how exactly we would use it and what for. I know for one that T-nex is setting up a huge expansion to the RPG section, linking a shophack to that might not be a bad idea. But I dunno in how far that will be possible.

I think I may have an idea about something, it's one similiar to the game section we have now. Since oddworld is exploring new medias in TV and film, I thought why not have a media section, where members can post about movies, new movie trailers and TV shows and such. It could be something for the future, when oddworld movie projects are released to the public. And it doesn't t have to be completely oddworld releate.

Yeah... but media-related stuff is like half of Off-topic usually.

Off-topic is meant to be big and broad, covering a wide selection of topics. We don't need to make a sub-forum for everything we talk about. The Non-Oddworld Gaming was needed since this is a gaming forum and people's gaming isn't limited to Odd World. That sub-forum is probably one of the few that could encourage posting and activity in OT.
