Shadow of the Colossus

I just bought this game yesterday and it is hands down one of the best games ever made. I've only defeated four of the Colossi so far but if the game got 1000 times worse from what I've already done it would still be one of the best games ever made. Great sequel (prequel) to Ico.

I would like to own this game, but I just don't have a PS2, dammit. Yeah, it's looks like a great original game, it's was a bit like watching a movie when I saw the gameplay footage, it had that cinematic quality.

I never seen Ico before.

Ico was one of the first games to come out for the PS2 and is to this day one of the five best for that system.

I almost want to leave this thread in OT because SotC is such an amazingly beautiful piece of art, but unfortunately I must move it to Non-Oddworld Gaming. *moves*

I'm really disappointed that it's only coming out on PS2, mainly because I don't own one. Right now I'm gently prodding my roommate (who has a PS2) into buying it so I can play it. Me so evil.

I have had the pleasure of playing a small amount of it, though. It certainly does blur the line between games and art... everything is just so visually stunning. The only word that I can think of to describe the battles is EPIC.

Hell, the game even inspired me to make a giant, colossus-esque character. I call him Oliver. *shameless deviantART page plug*

I beat it this past Friday. The ending is extremely depressing, happy, and amazing all at the same time. This game is just plain a work of art.

Icarus, something like that is not something to post in a thread, contributing so little to a thread.

I own the origional Ico, the special edition one with the post cards or summits. It was a very good game, with an amazing satured contrasty look. I'd buy this new game for the look alone.

I think the game will be avaliable on the Xbox soon, so there is chance I could get it. If I can afford it, which I probably can't.

I really hope you're right but I can't find anything about it on that-thar internet so I don't think it is being ported.

There is no possible way that this game will come to any other system. The game was made by SCEJ. Sony Computer Entertainment Japan. Although most listings give it to SCEA, it was not made by the American side of the company.

There's always a chance that Michael Jackson was completely innocent. Would you like to take your chances and let your kids spend the night?

Sorry, first metaphor I came up with.

I've been wanting to play Ico and Ico2 for a long time; I've only heard great things. Unfortunately, I don't have a PS2.

Hmmm. I looked into a UK game magazine I have in the to be released section and it shows SOTC with an Xbox icon next to the screenshot, but on the list it only shows to be released on the PS2. I think there is some mistake, thats what made me thought it would be on Xbox.

Mmm, I got Ico this Christmas after a long time day-dreaming about it. I'm also fully intending to get my hands on Colossus, though I want to finish up Ico first. Not that I'm very far on in it, it's certainly different, and it feels...special. What I've heard about Colossus is most tantalizing and o.a.n.s.t., you should be an undercover salesman -> 'The ending is extremely depressing, happy, and amazing all at the same time'.

Didn't know the game was even related to Ico (I mean, I know the same people made it. I'm talking story-wise). Looks pretty good but, alas, I don't have a PS2.

Haven't played, but I think it looks amazing.

OANST...does it get a bit annoying when the horse won't step off tiny ledges? I hear that it is.

No. If you know how to control the horse and you are going fast enough he will leap off of ledges. Agro (the horse) is the best.

I beat this game a couple of days ago at my friend's house and all I have to say is wow. The whole game was an original approach; no enemies, just colossi. The graphics were stunning, and the battles were amazing. My fave would have to be the third colossi, and my least would be the sixth, A.K.A the Tiger. However, the final one is probably the coolest and biggest.

Overall, I loved this game, and I recommend all who have PS2 should get it. By the way, did you guys know that white-tailed lizards increase your grip stamina? I didn't.

My neighbor bought it last week, and lets me play it. Unfortunately, I have to vie against him, his sister, and anyone else who wants to use his main TV.

It's a very good game. fresh and well crafted.

Yes. White tailed lizards increase grip and fruit increases life. That is unless you eat the fruit from the secret garden which will decrease your life. The secret garden is teh shit!

Probably one of the best games that I've played this year, although, it did get a bit frustrating near the end, but the ending was great.

Yeah, but I need to get Ico, never really played it, but I know what's going on and how the two connect.

As for T.S. Eliot, I'm a bit new to his works.

Err...One question. Was Shadow of the Colossus a prequel or a sequel to Ico? I saw the ending of SotC and I've read about Ico. What is it then?

A completely seperate game made by the same developer that had some similarities. Compare with Stranger's Wrath vs Munch's Oddysee.

I wouldn't say that exactly. Most people who have played the game (myself included) consider it to be a prequel to Ico.

.............
SPOILERS
.............

At the end of SotC Wander is taken over by Dormin who had been split into 16 pieces and held inside the Colossi to keep him from escaping. Dormin is Nimrod spelled backwards. Nimrod is a biblical character. He was the king that had the tower of Babel built. He was also said to have killed a bull, cut its horns off, and place them on his head, believing this would give him great power. Once the priest Emon threw the sword into the pool in SotC it created a kind of vortex that pulled most Dormin's essence out of Wander. But not all of it. Wander gets sucked into the pool as well. Shortly after, Mono wakes up (which by the way shows that Dormin was honorable enough to keep his side of the bargain). She walks to the pool and finds a baby with horns in it. This is the rebirth of Wander who is still slightly tainted by the essence of Dormin. Later the priest says that maybe one day he can redeem himself.

Now, Ico is definitely not Wander. But he is a decendent of Wander's. Wander was the beginning of the race of horned children that are sacrificed. Ico atones for what Wander has done and loses his horns in the process.
