The problem with this is because of the different settings of 'posts per page', everyone has a different 'page 25'.

Yes, good point. And I think that on that basis it would probably be more sensible to make a new thread whenever the old one gets rediculously large (roughly 25 pages on the default page view setting).
Also Ambi I'm a little confused... why does a moderator have to open the new one? I think you're over-ceremonialising the whole what do you look like thread idea... it doesn't need to be some kind of official event, and we don't need moderators to do it, the members are perfectly capable of creating a new thread.
Personally I think this whole thing is one big nonissue. The moderators aren't so without work that we need to give them the role of honorary "what do you look like?" thread opener. What's more we've never really had a problem in the past. I really don't see why comments about photos from the previous what do you look like threads can't be brought forward to the recent one. And I don't see what is so bad about just doing away with the old one when it becomes a bit too big in the opinion of whoever happens to be thinking about making a fresh one at the time. I've seen one "what do you look like?" thread that was just 2 pages long, and a few others that ended after much less than 25 pages. So I think it should be up to us, the forumers, to decide when they get too long, as we always have done in the past.
If we make this place too "official", too mod driven, then the standard users won't feel like they're a real part of building this community. Everyone should have room to contribute in a productive way, not just the mods, and I believe that deciding when is best to open a new "what do you look like?" thread is just one of those things.
So lets just leave it how it is... please? There's really no need to change it.
Lets just add one little rule of thumb though; if one person suggests that a new thread be made, and a second, and preferably third person agrees, then a new thread should be created, and not before. That way we won't have people creating new ones willy nilly like conker_rocket and snoozer did.
