Yeah that's really what I'm saying.
It's not completely pointless because lets face it, we're all serious gamers. Or at least, most of us are. We'd all find time to stop by and contribute, and have things to say... and it would be on a different basis to how things are done in OT.
Like for instance I might want to inform people about a new (to me) game that I've found, but I wouldn't even dare to THINK about posting it in OT, because really nobody would give a shit... in fact it'd just die. But if we had a dedicated games forum, I would post it there and it would be fine... people would actually comment on it and there might well be some discussions...
I'm not exactly sure why I think this I just somehow know... something about the difference in the psychology of it just tells me that it would go down differently. Heck maybe I'm just going on guts here but I'm pretty sure that if I could be bothered to type it all out you'd understand where I'm coming from when I say that people would be more likely to really get into talking about games if they had their own dedicated non-oddworld gaming forum... or subforum, or whatever.
