Things that make you squirm

I live at the edge of the suburbs, just backing into the bush. In the southern hemisphere, winter is coming, ant the latest rains have brought millipedes.
I can handle roaches, spiders, scorpions, ants, beetles, centipedes and all kinds of creepy-crawlies in the house - I just scoop them up with the dustpan and brush and throw them outside. But millipedes are the ones I hold at arms length.
They are from a centimerer to an inch long, they are thin and black, they have literaly hundreds of legs, and when disturbed they let off the worst of stenches - and there are hundreds of them!
So - what pest scrapes fingernails down your chalkboard?

I should try that. It might cure my morbid fear of them.

You already have, atleast 4 spiders are eaten in your sleep per year. And I hate spiders too, but I kill them, rather than run away and cry.

Pretty much any type of creepy-crawly makes me squirm. The only ones I can think of that don't bother me are ladybugs. They look neat, and they don't bite or sting or do anything weird like that. They have an acceptable number of legs. They are not hairy. They are beneficial in that they eat aphids which are harmful to plants. Ladybugs kick ass. If all things creepy and/or crawly were like ladybugs, the world would be a much better place.

There's a lot of creepy bugs that make me all squirmy. The worse two are roaches and praying mantises. My feelings toward roaches are like everyone else's probably, except maybe a bit amplified by the fact I've actually had to live with them before.

Praying mantises don't so much creep me out as they do... Oh, how should I put this... strike fear in the very depths of my soul. My grandfather created this little phobia by pretending to be about to give me candy, but instead throwing one on me when I was maybe 3 or 4 years old. It grabbed onto the front of my shirt, causing me to run, screaming and crying all over my great grandparents' porch. I think it must have been over a minute before anyone helped get it off my shirt. *Twitch, twitch*

Maggots are just so foul that they should be wiped from the face of the earth.

I used to feel the same way about snakes until I was in Wilson's Promontory (big hiking and camping national park) and had a brush with a tiger snake and a copper head - both among the most deadly in the world. The tiger snake crossed our path about five metres ahead and the copperhead was basking on a rock right next to the track so we had to walk past it*. When I survived both encounters without suffering a painful death, I decided I wasn't so afraid of snakes any more.

*It should be noted that this is not recommended to anyone and snake experts have since told me I was a bloody idiot to do it.

From a distance, then. Like nitroglicerain. It's cool to look at and to see it freeze things, but it's a BAD idea to touch it. Unless you want your index finger to crumble off like cigar dust.

By the way, how big is a potato bug?

Considering Australia contains more deadly animals / insects / whatever per square metre than any other country in the world, it is safe to say that I have grown up with them. Most things don't bother me, but that doesn't mean I'm not cautious around deadly ones.

If anything, I think snails are rather disgusting. Or slugs. I just don't sit too well with all the slime that they are composed of. I like things that I can grab onto and not be afraid of having it crushed and oozing in my hand.

Alcar...

Jesus Christ, man! Keep away from those bugs!

Okay, all that stuff I said about them being cute: that was before I knew that they were the size of f*cking mice. Squash one of those horrible bastards whenever you see them.

And Lobsters are cool, but again...from a distance.

Jeez, man. I feel like I need a giant can of raid.

Wasps. I don't mind spiders, I just leave them be unless I can't identify it or if it's one that I know is poisonous. In that case, squash! I don't think there's really anything else, just wasps I can't stand. Or wasp nests...

What pisses me off so much about spiders is how tricky they are. I've seen spiders on my bathroom wall that cling there curled up for like three days in a row, so I think they're dead and I ignore them. Then one day when I'm taking a shower I look over and happen to see that it's gone from it's usual place. I look around wildly and glance up just as it drops onto my face and inserts its horrible poison-injecting fangs into my flesh!

That's why spiders suck so much. *also shudders*

Spiders. That's why if I ever move out of England it will be to somewhere even colder.
Spiders living on cold climates tend to move indoors, I hope you know that. You'll always find more spiders living in your house during the winter.

One of the many things that makes me leap backward about 5 foot then jump onto the nearest stool, is the centipede. Orange legs with dark orange/red bodies, and a claw like thing on their tail. YEUCH! I hate them... you always find them living in old granite stone walls burrowing into the mortar... I found tons when I was asked to knock down a wall in our garden once, and they scared the hell outta me.

I went totally nuts when I found those, I was like "must contain threat, must burn enemy!" and got a lighter and aerosol and burned them before they had a chance to get anywhere near the house.

Spiders annoy me in general. However, I'll freak out if I run into a web. I don't know, I have paranoid delusions of the spider jumping off and laying eggs in my ear or something.

Jumping spiders... man. Those huge-ass things... blech.

Above all, I hate centipedes. They DISTURB me immensely.

Just large bugs or spiders in general creep me out...

*tilts head to one side* Is that a single centipede? *shudder* A single thing that looks like many separate things should not exist!

I've never had any run-ins with centipedes, probably due to where I live. I've had experiences with earwigs though. They're not as bad as centipedes, except for one thing: THEY SWARM! I rarely see just one earwig by itself. There are usually several in one area. One time I was rollerblading in the driveway and I stood still for a few seconds, and about a minute later I suddenly realized I had earwigs crawling all over me. I was probably less than ten at the time. Needless to say, I was freaked out. Earwig! This is somewhere around an inch long. What they lack in size they make up for in swarmy scariness.

Nightcrawlers are worms, Abe's Son. You must be thinking of something else.
