What are your views on plastic surgery for the mere sake of looking better?

Do you think it's a great way to boost self-esteem? Or should people just be happy with what nature gave them? Maybe you're even considering having some done or have already had some yourself.

Personally, I could never do it. But if you have the money and there's a part of you that you want changed, go for it.

Michael Jackson is an example of over-doing plastic surgery. For some, it's an addiction.

It isn't really bad to want to change something about yourself, but it is somewhat like letting our culture decide the way you're supposed to look. We all have to be soceity's definition of perfect. Yeah, I bet you're saying "only ugly people say that" but it is true to some extent. Like, I don't want to be fat...that's unhealthy. But there are people out there that want to change thier faces. Why? I think part of it might be pshycological...and no matter how many times you go under the knife, that won't go away.

As for me, I'm happy with the way I look, so no plastic surgery for mwah.

Well to a certain extend its understandable, cuz lets face the fact that some ppl just are born with a garbagecan for a face. If your getting picked on becouse of it all your life, then it might come in handy. But for all those 'I want to look good so I will starve myself' photo bitches, screw them I say!

Since I don't believe in that kind of crap, yes, they can go as nuts as they want.
If they do it right, and they look good then everybody's a winner, if they screw it up and look bad, it's their loss.

I certainly agree with that for some cases. That's how many people get addicted to the surgery. They fail to realize the problem lies within them rather than on the surface.

Hmm, even for when surgery is chosen simply to change a feature that isn't necessarily causing emotional pain, I'd bet becoming addicted is equally easy. For example, if someone got a nose job that came out wonderfully, then he or she may start thinking, "Well, they did such a nice job on my nose, maybe they could make this look better... and then that! And then that!"

I don't think it works when it comes to breasts because the jump in size is unbelievable. A good example of this is Pamela Anderson. She used to be hot, and I mean industrial strength HOTT. But then she started whoring herself out more and she listened to the "You need a gigantic rack to succeed in the entertainment business" and now she looks hideous. Its like shes got bags of grout for tits, its unbelievable. Even post reduction shes a good 2, 3 times bigger than she was in the 80s. My rule( I know I sound like a sexist jackass here, but this is just my rule): Anything more than a handful just ain't right. I think that it is a total crap shoot and a good 40 to 50 percent of the people who do it look worse post operation, no matter what is getting put in or taken out. Minor things likee face lifts, tummy tucks, etc don't bother me half as much as major nose and boob work.

I think that it's sad, becaue it's basicly saying that you hate the looks that your parents gave you, which is calling your parents ugly.

I don't mind people who have plastic surgery, but I don't think I would personally like to have it.

I've never seen a person come out of plastic surgery looking better then they did. They always look like... well they look like they just had plastic surgery. They seriously don't look normal anymore, and it becomes even harder to look at the person without cringing. For example, if anyone has seen the show "The Swan" on FOX, you get the idea.

Ugh, I've seen that show twice. All the women come out looking like they were manufactured in a Stepford Wives-ish factory. All of them always get the typical work. In both episodes I watched, every single one of them had junk injected into their lips to make them ridiculously big. Unnaturally huge upper lips scare me.

I must say hearing that some guys out there do not find the convential look of large breasts attractive is wonderful, Statikk. And I'm not just saying that because I have itty bitty titties.

Well, there is a lot of pressure to look young now a days, and it is mostly older people who get it done. It really is a reflection of modern social values, but I don't really have a problem with it as long as you don't go overboard. Personally, even though I am a young person, I would get my nose done if I had the money. My only real objection (which is extremely sexist) is that I don't like men getting it done. I feel like men should not be that vain.

I believe in the whole "You were created like you are for a reason" crap, and so i personally would never go through with it. Unless it was for something needed. Or i became even shallower than i am now.

But meh, let people do what they want, if they want to make themselves look as ugly as they are on the inside, on the outside with surgery, let them.

If you don't need it, and just get it because people would notice you (see: Silicon), it really shouldn't be done.

If you want to look like your favorite celebrity (like Michael Jackson did) it really shouldn't be done- cause it's just silly.

However, for medical reasons (a guy on Ripley's got his face torn off), then it's ok.

I certainly wouldn't do it.

I think it is okay to an extent. I think a person should be able to do something to make them feel better about themselves.

I can see why people want to get it for medical reasons. Something on the outside of a person could've caused serious emotional problems and those problems might disappear with it. But people who do it just to make others like them more are ridiculous.
Which makes me one of them, I'm afraid. I know it's the easy way out (and most expensive) but I would just love to have all this extra weight disappear overnight.

When I'm older, I would have cosmetic surgery. I know it sounds shallow, but I really have no qualms with plastic surgery. People who don't believe in it don't have to, but if someone wants to get it done, they should regardless.

I was pierced, branded and tattooed because I personally find it aesthetically pleasing.
Granted, I also found deeper and more spiritually profound attachments afterwards, but the end result was still personal satisfaction.

Hmmm... What is it that you consider so grotesque?

I would only have the surgery if I got majorly disfigured in some kind of accident.

People don't see why I want surgery, but it's not as pointy as I personally want it. My friends are always confused when I say I want it, but there are some things you just want to do out of personal preference.

Well, if the parents want to modify their baby for reasons that are appropriate to them, then they should go ahead with it. For example, if the baby can be manipulated to help an older sibling medically, it also seems feasible to me.

Oh, I thought you meant medically. I don't think it's right to manipulate embryos to possess certain physical characteristics, my mum's best friend is a gynaecologist and was telling me about how the embryo tissue can be easily broken, leading to severe deformities and improper development. I don't feel that it's necessary to pose a risk that great for mere physical preference.
