A question that is a bit confusing..

Here it is...

If a tree falls in a forest, does it make a sound?

Does it really make a sound?

The 'confusion' of this question lies in this theory: How can something possibly exist, if there is nothing there to witness it? If nothing in the universe hears the sound, how could it have existed? It comes down to what you think of reality, I suppose.
Seems similar (to me, at least), to the theory that God exists when you think of Him, because you think of Him. And thus he MUST exist, at least in your mind, which is where everything exists.

yea but no matter if you know it happens or not, it still makes a sound.... :S

It would make a sound if your there to hear it, and sound actually is there, we just use our ears to hear it, and record it in our head. And if we heard it, then we will how a tree falling sounds like.

Really? I'm not so sure...
How can something possibly happen without it being experienced?
Without any memory or evidence of an event, did it happen?

because it just does... :-S And if you're saying that if something doesn't happen if you don't experience it, then the tree wouldn't fall at all: Personally i don't think that you have to experience something for it to happen.
I'm sorry, but i don't really understand this point of view. Lots of stuff has happened without anyone seeing it or witnessing it...

Yes, but there is evidence for that stuff to have happened.
I'm talking about no one having memory, or experience, or there existing evidence of somethig happening, such as the sound of the tree. Did it exist? How could it have existed?

because it just did... gah ok .... I'm gonna use a stupid example, but emagine an umm.. Chippunk from SW, you put it on the ground, but it's too far away from the outlaws, so they don't hear it. Sure they don't know it has ever happened, but it did happen right?

Perhaps...

I'll use an example. Didn't Stranger really exist, say, when the dinosaurs did? Didn't he live in the meteors crator, and all evidence of his very small and inconsequential existance get wiped out?

Edit: Terrible, I know. I'm very badly playing devils advocate.
About the chippunk. How could the sound have existed? It didn't come out of the speakers, did it? Sure, it used it's attracting power within the games primitive coding, and this was visualised through the radar and via, I'm sure, some coding deep within the game somewhere.

... Gah... i can't this. ok, we say a huiman i living in a land with no living creature than himself. No one knows he exists, but he odes. No matter what you say, he exists, but without us knowing it...

He knows he exists, therefore there is knowledge of it somewhere. It doesn't matter how many people know, or if we personally know.

There is evidence that it is there, because you can go to it, obviously.
There is no evidence the sound of the tree was ever there. There is no memory of it, nothing.
