Lack of presence...

Hello everyone. As you may have noticed, I haven't been around much lately. This is due to the fact my family is going through a crisis of some sort. I'm not gone forever or anything like that, but I won't be around as much as I used to. Hopefully, things will get back to normal soon.

Hey guys. My family and I moved to a new house, so that's another reason why I haven't been on in what seems like forever. Just got the internet hooked back up today.

Anyway, I think I'll be able to visit regularly as in the past. Yay!

Okay...

It seems another family crisis is going on. Let me explain.

The reason I was absent from the forums before was because my Dad had gone missing. My Dad is Bipolar(Manic-Depressive) and he went into a Manic episode, then ran off for a couple weeks. We had no idea where he was. During this time, he tossed his cell phone and wedding rings into the ocean...gave away most of his clothes(he took a suitecase)...etc. When the police found him in Malibu, he was ranting and raving about all kinds of crazy things. He was obviously sick. Dad was taken to the hospital down there, but was shortly released. Though, he wasn't released because he was better...he was still extremely nuts. The reason he was released was due to the fact that he was planning on taking the mental hospital to court. California law now requires that all mental patients have a patient advocate assigned to them...kind of like a public defender. Pretty much the patient advocate was bound by law to take the hospital to court on behalf of my insane father. Rather than go to court with my Dad, the metal hospital released him. While this was going on, my family and I apparently had no rights in the matter... even though we wanted Dad to stay at the metal hospital and get well. When he's sick, he can get violent and we were scared. My Dad was released anyway. For the past month or so I've been living with a crazy man. As of now he still isn't well! This past month he's been on all kinds of medication, and he's still being a jerk. It was yesterday that my Dad got extremely angry with me, unprovoked I might add, and threatened to "kick my ass." He pushed me around a few times, but I didn't want to fight him. "You're 18 now," he said...along with all kinds of swearing. The end result is this: I'm going to stay with my grandparents in Montana. They have dial-up, but I don't think I'll be able to come around to the OWF until things get sorted out. This really sucks, because I just finished moving...now I have to move again. Blah. I wish I could keep my mod positions and pick it back up when I hopefully return, but if they have to be removed...I understand. I also have to face the fact that Abe Babe might have to get a new Oddworld-Web reporter. This is just terrible.

Anyway, I think I'll be leaving by bus on Thursday. I'll stick around until then.

I had no idea oddguy, but I wish you the best. As for your Moderator positions, I'm sure they can be left the way they are. Stranger's Wrath is already out, so the bulk of new stuff has passed.

Anyway, even Dial Up can handle the forums. And even then, using one of the other styles can reduce time / bandwidth consumption

Anyway, my Dad hasn't been completely well in the past 9 years of my life. He's been cycling back and forth between Mania and Depression. This is the worst I've seen him, though. It's really sad, because my Dad is sick, but I've only known him as jerk. During those impressionable years as a youth, instead of thinking I had an awesome dad as all the rest, my dad would slap me around. So, as you can imagine, I really don't like my father. What's even worse, is that in his mind...I'm a bad child and he's a good father. Ha! I don't know how he comes to that conclusion!

Cool. I'll try that. I don't see myself being as involved as in the past, but I'm sure I'll be able to make appearances.

Why is it that when you mix the Legal system and the Health Care system they
seem to make more money and the patient get`s F#CKED, every time?
Sorry to hear that you get to experience the worst of both ,first hand.
Hope that both you and your Dad get what you need to make this right.

Yikes, I'm sorry to hear of your situation, oddguy. I've never had to live with anything like that, but empathise with you. GD and the Spoiler Forum can survive without you, and like Alcar points out, you're not altogether cut off from us. Hope things calm down for you, in any case.
