Goths

Well? What do you think of Goths? Scary? Weird? Cool?

One of my friend's is goth, and he's a pretty cool guy, with a weird sense of humor.

What's your say?

I have only one goth friend, and I've only met him in person once, but he's an absolutely fabulous guy who I could not survive without: kind, generous, understanding, peaceful, tolerant and funny.

Most people eventually reach a point in their lives where they couldn't give a crap about what a person looks like, dresses like, what kind of music they listen to, whatever. I've certainly reached such a point a looong time ago. I have all sorts of friends with crazy styles of their own, some resembly the gothic look.

However, I do dispise labels... I think it's pretty pathetic when a person can't just be himself or herself without needing to fit into some sort of social catagory.

For the most part, I couldn't care less. I know people who are goths. Some are cool. Some aren't. What it is.

What's funny is how all the goths at my school are really nice and normal and stuff. They dress in black and weird clothing and wear makeup and have weird hair, but that's where the gothicness ends. I imagine that if they weren't goths they'd be preps and drill team members and student body representatives. Hee hee.

So do clothes make the goth? Or do you hafta act like a goth to be a goth?

One thing though: they listen to the worst music! You'd expect goths to listen to Satanic death metal and all that rot (which is also horrible), but the ones at my school listen to whiney loser crappy alternative bands. Not like 90's rebellious out-of-the-box awesome alternative rock, but 00's mainstream corporate jackass loser alternative bands. Nahmean? There's a dividing line somewhere a couple years before the year 2000: before that, mainly good rock, after that, mainly horrible rock.

Same here. Wannabe-goths are everywhere in the moment, lol. A few years ago they were hip-hoppers, now they're goths I really don't care about them, as long as they leave me alone.

ZRW is a goth and is pretty weird.
the goths of now are absolutely nothing like the real goths of old.
Why did they pick the name goth anyway when they are again nothing like the original goths?

The "Goths" were a germanic tribe of nomads from Europe, Gothic is also a style of cathedral and discribes pointy artitecture.

And I hate goths with every fiber of my being. And yes I do mean hate. I hope they hate me back. Allow me to explain...

Some goths are intellegent or not what I hate, and I have nothing against those peoples. I like metal, I have nothing against their music. I just hate the ones that think their friends with the devil. Or atleast the ones that THINK they know everything about cults and unholy gods, but don't. I especialy hate the ones in Salem who think their Cthulhu cultists because they read the book. I would ****ing LOVE to watch one walk into the Brotherhood den and get their ass kicked because they knew so little and said so many things your NOT supposed to say. I would pay money, just to see it. I don't mind if they worship the devil, thats all fine and dandy if you think he's the Paradise Lost one. I don't however but I respect that. I just don't like the ones who don't and say they do.

Other than that I have no problem with them. If your outside of what I described your not a goth [To me at least... or emo for that mater], and so, I still hate goths.

Just voicing my opinion.

Goths... Let's see... I don't know any.
I've seen a few people who dress like that, but I don't really care. It's a little odd, but if that's what they're into, then all the more power to them.

It's been surveyed that 95% of Goths are not satanic. The gothic look emerged at the end of the 70's when punk sorta...broke, dividing ordinary metal apart from black metal. People back then had issues.

Well some people become Goths and wear gothic clothing because they know people will not mess with them, or they want to be away from society. If you are the only white kid in a public school well then most people become goths so people don't interact with them. So if they are being a goth for that reason they may be a really
social person.

Then there are the goths that dress that way because they are depressed and want to show people how terrible their life is...those people are like the same people you see that are nick named "criers in yur beer"...those people need to get over there problem because it annoys everyone else, like myself when they talk about how cruel life is. Don't get me wrong life can be cruel but I don't want to hear a speech about it.

Then there are goths who dress that way to stand out and be different, I have a message to those type of goths: you DO NOT have to dress that way to be cool, be your (heres the key word) TRUE self and that is plenty different enough, and that is true for everyone. Yes goths are people I meet and know second hand but they really arn't the kind of people that I become best friends with IF they have a depressing attitude

Man that was a hoot to write

Goths look sorta creepy in my opinion, but we don't have many at my school. Granted we have a lot of people that wear the black clothes and pants with chains and all that, but they don't go full out with all of the make up and just general creepiness. One of my long-time friends has becomone of them and he's cool so they don't bother me too much.

I wouldn't want to meet any other ones though. For the most part a lot of them are idiots. And no, I am not generalizing as a whole... I'm just saying that all of the ones I've met are pretty much idiots. That doesn't mean they all are.

Gothism isn't a religion. Or at least, not a homogenous religion. Every goth beleives something different.

My school had a strictly enforced uniform so you couldn't tell anything about anyone from their appearance. Casual day was always entertaining because you could tell which of your friends were goths, homies or creepy people wearing trenchcoats and wall-clocks on chains around their necks.

I think its pretty silly. Its just a phase some kids fall into so they can be a part of a group. I haven't seen many middle aged goths, so I guess you can consider that evidence. They could at least be more original. I don't have anything against people that only wear black clothes all day and night 24/7, but come on! Why not throw in some magenta to mix things up a bit, go wild!

I have a friend who's a goth. I reckon they're OK. Although I don't like the goths that act suicidal and write depressive poems and all that stuff. That just annoys me. I mean, if you're gonna be that depressed, keep it to your self!

No, Alpha. You very much did not spell that right. Sheesh...

The trenchcoat look is AWESOME! I think some of those people are actually Russian spies or something. Heh. But those pants with chains are the STUPIDEST things I have EVER seen. I freaking hate those things.

I like goths that don't try to be trendy. I guess that's really the difference between annoying goths and cool goths: cool goths don't try to be cool and that makes them cool, and annoying goths try to be cool and that makes them uncool. Yup.

Especially since I am in Florida, its never trenchcoat weather.

That's what's so funny about Goths - they try to demonstrate how anti-establishment and alternative they are by copying some crappy fashion and joining a group.

I wear black always (well, we have a uniform at school, so not their obviously) because all of my band T-shirts are black, and black is
1. Awesome
2. Synonomous with my heavy metal band image

And I have been on the lookout for a trenchcoat for freakin' years, I can't find them here! So hopefully if I end up going to Australia I will get one.

I have a thing for the Goth style. Not necessarily the make-up part, but the strange hair, badass black clothes, brightly colored contacts...Its neat. I don't know anything about the Goth subculture because I've never been in a place where there were a good deal of Goth kids who hung out together. As far as I can tell, where I'm from its just a fashion trend.

I did know ONE goth chick, but she was all out. Later she turned out to be a hooker.

Oh, and trenchcoats are synonymous with cool in my book. The person wearing it may be a poser, but that doesn't make the style less neat.
