Romance is a theme that isn't closely associated with Oddworld. Friendship, consumerism, respecting nature... there are really a lot of songs that could fit into the series. For example Pink Floyd's Money, The Beatles' Taxman or Jessie J's Price Tag. Now I'm not saying those SHOULD be the soundtrack but they would still have a connection to the theme.

Ya know, I've always thought this was about Abe's love for his bretheren, his journey to the Monsaic lines and the temples, and him coming back for the rest of the mudokons.
If you'd actually read into the lyrics, there's a good chance that you'll realize JAW and OWI didn't just randomly pick a fucking song to represent New 'n Tasty.

I think the nature of the Oddworld franchise means that ambient music will always trump lyrical music just because of the atmosphere. Any sort of 'lyrics' would probably have to be chanted and tribalistic or droning and industrial to play on a duality with the actual area you are exploring.

With that being said I didn't think 'Born to Love You' was an inherently bad song. It was so-so in the sense that it's almost pop-chart worthy. It's also great that a fan got to do the music, must have meant everything to her. I haven't played NnT yet so I don't know if it features actually in-game but if it's only in the credits then I don't have any qualms. It's not like it'll ruin the immersion of names scrolling across my screen.

This is what everybody else keeps saying, but that's not the point. If I recorded the sound of me shitting into a bucket and it got in the game you wouldn't say "It's okay because you're a fan, you must feel great".

Except it totally does. It completely breaks the flawless atmosphere which took an entire game to build.

Well, when you consider that the originals managed to maintain, even enhance that atmosphere with the credits, blending concept art with ambient noise to create an unsettling sense of unknowable scale that keeps you feeling weird for a couple of minutes after you close the game... yeah, NnT looks considerably worse in comparison.

I genuinely burst out laughing at the end of Crash's LP. It's just so very, very jarring.
