Also, if Clara only knows 11 Doctors can we assume that Moffat is going to attempt to kill him off Once and For All?

I liked Matt Smith, but it's probably time to move on.

I would love it if John Hurt took over permanently.
YES. Maybe now the show will be watchable

Moffat is the problem. I reckon if Russell T Davies would of written the show when Matt Smith was the Doctor, it would of been much more entertaining.

Russell T. Davies was just as flawed a head writer as Steven Moffat. In fact, I think the difference is that Moffat is a far superiour writer of his own scripts, but Davies is better at managing teams of other writers.

My thoughts exactly, especially after they played the Eccleston/Tennant series over here again last year.

I'd prefer better individual episodes a la RTD than the crap we're getting now, though.

Maybe it’s just that Doctor Who isn’t a very good show to write for at all?

You've got a point. It is about a man flying around time and space in a blue box. it's not the most normal show in the world.

Well, it's certainly doing something right becaise we all watch it. Moffat was definitely better as a one-off writer, his episodes were actually scary. I enjoyed RTD's episodes more, but what I hated about them was the fact that every time the doctor came up against an old enemy (I.E. Daleks, Cybermen), and there was an army of them, he just flicks the reverse switch and erases all of them from existance, then in the next Dalek episode they have to come up with some bullshit reason why they're back.
That's why 'Dalek' was such a good episode. He did it before getting into all the "EPIC GIANT ARMY" stuff.

Nothing. In fact it's what makes Doctor Who so unique and likeable. I was just saying it must be hard to write.

To be fair, DW could be much better than it is if they didn't pedal it to children, ultimately you are watching a show for kids and early teens. They could have done a lot with that supposed horror episode for instance - the one set in that forest - but nah, power of love and shit, ballsed it up.

In the old days is was openly cheap and cheesy because it had to be. I wonder if they aren't deliberately trying to match those sensibilities.

A more adult spinoff would be great, but it would have to be a different beast from Torchwood. That was like any post-watershed city drama with a few aliens thrown in. Perhaps something about the Time Agents or the Shadow Proclamation. I for one have a soft spot for Madam Vastra. Speaking of which, we know that in the early 3000s the Silurians are going to wake up and make a place for themselves on Earth with humanity. That could be a long-running series all by itself.

It would be nice to see a Spin-off. I quite miss Touchwood so I wouldn't mind that coming back... somehow

Torchwood was terrible. Not as bad as The Sarah-Jane Adventures, but still terrible.

I'm watching an old Chris Ecclescake episode. The Long Game is such a good episode, too bad the monster in it is so stupid.

E: Now Fathers Day.
Series 2 is my nostalgia point. I think I'll watch some Dave and cry a little.

You mean, based on the original 1964 episode? It could work, but it would never happen, because the "Whovians" want badly acted CBBC comedy.

She was a Mary Sue. She didn't need to do much other than be pretty and save the day.

Up to S1E3 now. Funny how Gwen Cooper's actress was in this episode. I personally enjoyed Torchwood, although they went a bit over-the-top with the 'adultness'.

I think shows centering about aliens could become more popular thanks to shows like Defiance and the popularity of Farscape / Star Trek. British Sci-Fi often veers much more towards the humorous aspect (Red Dwarf, Spaced, Hitchhiker's Guide). I think when this current zombie craze dies down everyone will want something else. Whether it's aliens or sea creatures we'll have to wait and see.

Don't look at me, I wanted Stephen Merchant.

So they're going back to the Tom Baker unsettlingly eccentric Doctor. That's fair enough. If anything, Dr. Who was getting too trendy.

Also, I like how some of the tweets imply that a well-established character actor is a step down from an ex-footballer nobody had heard of.
