Well the point wasn't to make a fun game - The point was to make Minecraft within Minecraft, and I think this is probably the best you're going to get.

Anyway, nobody reads my thread in Fan Corner so I'll ask here (but I have my doubts people will respond here either).

After nearly a year, I've finally planned a progressive story that'll involve the player for my Rupture Farms Adventure Map thing that I've been working on, and how it will work - This is a good thing, especially after re-starting the project with its own texture pack and a larger level.

What I need now though are ideas for as many different traps, piston contraptions or obstacles as I can get my hands on that aren't too large or complex and can fit into a platform style adventure map - I have a few of my own, but the more varied the level design, the more fun it'll be. There'll be a credits board by the player spawn so nobody will be uncredited. You can submit your designs through savegames or videos and I'll use them if they're good enough. Anyone care to help or be a small part of this epic thing I'm doing? :P

The moment I read that, the image of the generic conveyor belt gauntlet came to mind. A tight passage with pistons, moving blocks, crushing down from above or pushing you from the side. It could run behind the walls for a good claustrophobic feel, or alternately it could go across a bigger open area of the factory, above some sort of hazardous area, or simply a drop (HL1 had a lot of this stuff after the garbage crusher bit).

Yeah I kind of know what you mean - It's a bit unfortunate that crushing only hurts the player and not kills them. And also that you can't have a moving floor. But during a long gauntlet I suppose the damage from being crushed would add up if the player wasn't careful... Thanks, I've added it to the list.

Oh yeah I've also devised a way of making contraptions start when players enter an area (via a door), but stop when a player leaves an area. That way you won't have all these contraptions going off at once and causing lots of lag.

Also I've found a way to constrict the player to prevent them from going where they aren't meant to through invisible blocks and the custom texture pack, so that's not a problem either.

Massive update to the snapshot. New ore! New chest! and NPC trading!

:
12w21a May 24, 2012

Added Ender Chest.
Added Emerald.
Added Emerald Ore.
Added [U]Villager Trading.
Made Buckets Stackable.
Added snow to Creative Inventory.
NPC Villages change style according to their biome.
Stars are more realistic.
Changed Gravel texture to less noisy one.
Improved Options menu.
Added Pyramids.
Added a second Golden Apple made with Block of Gold.
After being consumed, Player receives 30 second Regeneration IV, Resistance and Fire Resistance for 5 minutes.
Added Sandstone Stairs

Bug Fixes:

Removed Server Jar dependency in Single Player.

Notable bugs (Complete bug list):

Emerald Ore has the wrong texture.
Loading a world from a previous version corrupts it.
Generated structures are very buggy.
New Golden Apple does not appear in the creative mode inventory screen.
Villager Trading with more than 1 emerald, won't show the item, if you place the emeralds 1 to 1
When removing the last Ender Chest, no items are ejected, and you must place a new one to retrieve the items. (may not be a bug)
When a Desert Village spawns stone half slabs spawn on the forge instead of sandstone slabs
Single player still thinks it requires server/minecraft_server.jar. A blank file with the same name can be used.
Ender Chest

New Ore, Emerald!

Gravel has a new texture

Naturally spawning Pyramids!

Mind blown. It was today in RL when I strolled across a bit of white-grayish gravel on my way to lunch and wished MC gravel would look a bit more like that.

And the emerald (even though the list didn't really say what it's good for). And pyramids too, that sounds exciting. I just love it when you it's the MC world that gets updated, giving you more stuff to bumb into during exploring.

The emeralds are for the new trading mechanic – villagers use them as currency, supposedly.

The emeralds are the most exciting thing for me – I want as many gems as possible to stuff my treasure vault with, and I hope they add more.

Every time I see MC updates like this it bums me out that the xbox version is so far behind. At the same time, it gets me sort of excited for what's to come.

You should enjoy 1.6 while it lasts, it was my favourite release....or was it 1.7, I forget...

1.7 basically only added pistons, and was the last update before the Adventure Update. I have to say I love all the new stuff going in. Except the new gravel texture. It looks too regular and griddy.

Maybe 'cause they liked the simplicity of the old Minecraft and get all nostalgic even though 1.8+ is far, far superior as a game. But there's nothing stopping them using Minecraft mods or using an old Minecraft.jar, so I dunno why people complain about it either. What do they expect Mojang to do? Leave it as it is forever for it to get stale?

Also what I'm trying to do with Minecraft now wouldn't be possible without all the recent updates.

I'll just be happy when we get creative mode. I've been using a rather handy duplication glitch that's more or less providing the same experience, but it's generally frowned upon by other players and I have no idea what will happen when the patch comes out as it's a priority on their known bugs list.

The only thing I hate is the Hunger Bar, I liked it when food just regenerated your health. oh and a few sounds before the 1.0 update such as Steve's 'Ow', Doors and the old Creeper explosions.

I must be adapting very easily to the new updates then - the new sounds don't bother me, they became natural (I don't even remember what sound doors made before, if they did at all).

I shall now give account of the Technic Launcher. It is essentially what I've been missing from MC when it comes to mods: being able to choose between different modded - or the vanilla - versions of MC without juggling JAR files and folders around. On startup, you get to choose what supported mod pack you want to play (e.g. Technic, Tekkit, YogBox, Hack/Mine), and after the usual login, you play MC with the choosen mod. The launcher creates a separate folder for each of mod packs you start up.

So I booted up the Technic Pack yesterday. I spawned near a surface lava flow that was surrounded with dark basalt stone, I found a Mayan settlement (Millenaire mod), a disturbing number of crocodiles in the nearby area (if they manage to attack you, they will hold you between their jaws for a while and you can't attack them - courtesy of the Mo'Creatures mod) and many other things which I haven't figured out yet, I'll only relate to the wikis when I get over the novelty of the whole experience.

Oh, and I was exploring a cave as usual, when a hornet flew at me from the darkness and attacked me. Stuff of my nightmares, but now I shall face them, thanks to Technic...

Another great one: Magic Launcher lets you select which Minecraft version and which mods to run each and every time you start the game. Again, no more fiddling around with zips and jars.

That should solve the problem of those who want to go back to basics, I guess.

Update on my (mis)adventures in Technic: one time, after sunset, I was minding my furnaces in the cave dirt shelter I dug near the Mayan village, when an Ogre started smashing the roof up. The next morning, the Mayans decided to build a tree farm above my shelter. And, apparently, if there is a cave underneath a construction site, they fill it up somewhat. So, I found myself and my shelter encased in dirt, only managing to bring some of my treasure up to the surface before suffocating in a suddenly appearing block.

I moved a bit farther away from them. Then I found a dungeon with goblins in various types of armor, riding giant colourful silverfish and hornets (yay), all eager to destroy me. Which they did. Then, after resurfacing, something that might be best described as a flying purple diamond poisoned and killed me after I tried to catch it. So I went fishing to relax a bit, and I caught a jellyfish that, once again, poisoned me, although without the dying part.

There's a lot to see and experiment with in this mod. I still haven't consulted the wiki, so I'm perplexed about a lot of things, but it just adds to the whole feel of the mod.

I was going to suggest that too. That is to say, I'd be up for it. That map would be worth checking for itself alone, even if we don't go about hunting eachother.

That looks like a lot of fun, but for full effect it would need a hell of a lot of prior planning and co-ordination.

Last-man-standing type games generally work best when everyone is on at the same time, for example.

I would love to be part of it, but I ping around 600ms to the server making combat impossible. That's why I haven't been on much lately.

I'd probably still show up, even if I was one of the first to be out. I could film, too.
