Minecraft

My friend told me about this game called Minecraft and he said it's very fun and I should try it out. So, I did try it out and, dang, it's so addicting! I've been playing the full version for about a week now. (I downloaded it when the servers were down for a while and I can still play the singleplayer, wee!) It's basically a game where you start in a random world, and you have to collect resources to get started. Example; You collect some wood, you make some refined wood, you make a workbench out of the refined wood, you make a wooden axe that can be used to chop wood faster.

Check it out! Clickity click!

Now, if you have tried it, what do you think about it?

I myself find it very fun, addicting and relaxing at the same time.

You can either mine through caverns in hope of finding some diamond or you can just craft some nice decorations for your house/castle/shelter!

Also, if you'd like to know more about it you can check this guy's Minecraft videos, they're pretty addicting:

PS. I didn't find an existing thread about Minecraft, but I think there was some discussion in the What are you playing right now? -thread. Excuse me if I broke a rule. D:

Crashpunk 09-27-2010 09:51 AM

It looks pretty interesting. I'll give it a go.

Dynamithix 09-27-2010 10:35 AM

You should, it's very fun. Also the building system is one of the more addicting things.

I spent a lot of time building my castle(s) just to make every block look exactly the same so it would be perfect.

Oddey 09-27-2010 10:48 AM

I already play Minecraft and I love it.

Mr. Bungle 09-27-2010 10:52 AM

So, is it just Farmville minus the farms?

I've heard some goods things about this, actually. Some bad things, too. Might give it a shot later.

Dynamithix 09-27-2010 11:12 AM

@Oddey, awesome!

@Mr. Bungle, what bad things? :tard:

Mr. Bungle 09-27-2010 11:21 AM

I dunno, people have just told me it gets really boring and repetitive. A few people have even called it "gay", but if they're using that as an insulting term, they're probably just not very intelligent, and would rather play Halo and CoD. :P

Dynamithix 09-27-2010 11:34 AM

I must say it does get repetitive in a way, but all the different caverns and areas you discover and mine/build houses on, it does NOT get boring for a good while.

But hey, you can be intelligent and play Halo or Call of Duty! :D

(I was going to write a huge wall of text how MW2 is bad, but I think that text serves a place on another thread. Maybe.)

the fact that he was kind of smug about how great his house was beforehand made it even better.

OANST 09-27-2010 12:19 PM

Should've quicksaved, bitch.

Dynamithix 09-27-2010 12:29 PM

I don't think Minecraft has a quicksave option.

I'm not sure though.

MA 09-27-2010 12:30 PM

oh god.

Dynamithix 09-27-2010 12:38 PM

...yes?

Cammy 09-27-2010 03:21 PM

Minecraft constantly saves the game when you press escape and through out other points of time. The side effect is that you can't revert back if you mess up.

Wil 09-27-2010 03:22 PM

I have had Minecraft for, oh, a couple of hours.

My favourite bit is where I go outside because it's daytime and some non-flammable monster kills me, so I respawn, then the game crashes so that, when a start it up again, it's saved my position but none of the changes I've made, so I've lost everything and am shut out of my stronghold and also somehow it's night.

My favourite solution to this is to stand there at the respawn point until morning while things kill me repeatedly.

OANST 09-27-2010 03:25 PM

THAT SOUNDS AWESOME!

Mr.Spandexpants 09-27-2010 03:44 PM

Its not working for me. It looks like the kind of game I would like to play, but my computer is not connecting to it.

Alf Shall Rise 09-27-2010 06:38 PM

I love Minecraft. A couple of friends and I are building a small settlement, I can't wait until there are actually monsters in multiplayer.

Mudokon_Master 09-27-2010 07:25 PM

OMG! I saw a review for that on Good Game and I thought you had to buy it. Thanks for the link, man. I'm download it right away.

Dynamithix 09-27-2010 09:17 PM

One problem occurs to me more than it should; when you put the sound to let's say... 50% and the music to 0%, it changes them automatically back to 100% and 100% after a while. This happens to me pretty much all the time. Meh.

Those videos made by X are great, they convinced me to try this. Just to make it clear: you can access the crafting-mining-full-version if you buy the game, right? Otherwise you can only access the infinite-building-without-crafting mode?

Yes.

Well, the unpaid-for version isn't infinite. From what I've heard, the full version is damn near infinite, being larger than Earth.

Although I've yet to see that from Notch.

Nate 09-27-2010 11:51 PM

I watched the first 2.5 videos by X. When does the game start becoming fun?

enchilado 09-28-2010 12:32 AM

Tried it. Seems interesting, but I think with crafting and fighting it'd be better (I was doing multiplayer).

The best thing is aiming straight down and digging rapidly, deep deep down into the earth. Except I kept crashing into other people's tunnels.

Nemo 09-28-2010 02:27 AM

Digging down is insane difficulty mode.

enchilado 09-28-2010 02:33 AM

The first couple of blocks need to be in front of you, actually. Once you're in the pit you can dig straight down.

I rather meant "infinite building", that is, you have infinite resources to build with, just like in the browser version.

OK, so it'll be buying the game then.

Crashpunk 09-28-2010 02:47 AM

I like to idea how every single time you start a new game the map is always different. But that's over-shadowed my the fact that my heads pounding and my eyes hurt because of the block graphics. It hurts after a while.

anyway it is a good game nevertheless. I like the block building.

Yeah I was on Super Mario Bros this morning :tard:

enchilado 09-28-2010 02:48 AM

Hey! I like the block graphics!
