Where the hell do you here moonlight sonata enough to get bored of it? That's my my favourite movement of Estampes too.

That first movement of Moonlight Sonata is so commonly used it might as well be just known as stock music. Although I will admit to being bored by most of Beethoven's pieces. Many will not agree, but I do not think that he was one of the greatest composers to ever live.

First song reminds me somewhat of this, for some reason. It almost sounds as if Rachmaninoff was on acid when he composed it.
Some of Rachmaninoff's stuff is fantastic. But if you found the Messiaen piece interesting, you should follow it up with the rest of the compositions which constitute "Catalogue d'Oiseaux". They are all piano arrangements of transcriptions he did of birdsong.
