:
I'll put one up for you when I'm back home on Monday. 2fort seems far enough away to warrant one, IMO.

Just to make it clear though, the gate system is purely meant to bridge some immense distances like between Genesis and Exoddus or at old ongoing projects back at Genesis (like RF and 2fort). There will be no personal gates in and around Exoddus.
Okay i'm happy with that. Just for projects.

Thanks

I need to get my finger out of my arse and continue working on RF. Will continue in the next few days.

Would my slime farm count as a useful destination? I always intended for it to be publicly accessible but it was so far out of the way. Not really fussed either way, just putting it out there.

You can commonly find slimes in the Exoddus communal mines (which is incredibly easy to check too since there are fast ways up and down that shaft). Also slime doesn't have that much use.

It's used in brewing, so once that's released we might need a farm.

I think we can just travel to the farm by minecart if we have to. That way it feels less like hacking.

I can't be arsed typing it out.

:
Aside from being convenient, there's also an underlying performance reason why I'm installing this. Traveling between Genesis and Exoddus requires the entire Nether route to be loaded by the server and since it's a minecart track this has to be done very quickly. After that it also has to load Genesis in most cases since no-one is usually there anymore. Thus when someone travels on that track the server gets loaded pretty badly. With these gates you'll be able to teleport yourself directly to Genesis and back without having to load the Nether.

Everytime I go anywhere near bedrock I get overrun with slimes. I think your slimefarm is a bit obsolete, max

It's a good thing that Idle-for-more-than--minutes plugin is installed
My dog almost killed itself when I was playing with Ench just before so I had to chase him down the streets, worrying that Ench would be super-pissed at me for being AFK for so long.
Also, what's with the new '/back' command? I don't know if it's new or not, I haven't really died for a long time.

I assumed the back command meant getting back from AFK, I didn't look too much into it. So it transports you to the last place you died? In that case it will be disabled.

DarkHoodness just made a very generous donation of $30 which will keep the server online for 3 extra months. Huzzah!

More donations are always welcome, PM me for my Paypal adres if you want to send a couple of bucks.

So that people know - I've built a short section of my idea for a city wall between the mine and the castle. Go take a look at it and tell me what you think!

Also I have an idea for where it's going to go, too - I'll mark it out within the next few days and people can say what they think.

Gate design.

I want opinions/suggested improvements! There will be a few of these over the main pathways leading out of town. (Built in single-player test map)

I like the wall, I had originally envisioned it with concrete or stone brick, but being in a desert this makes much more sense. Only one point, I think the wall should be equally high everywhere. Doesn't look right to me if it's bouncing up and down everywhere.

Yeah I thought about that - However the town isn't all on the same level, and there are parts where the hills would overshadow the wall unless they were levelled entirely.

I suppose another way of doing that would be to keep the wall universally as high as its tallest point, then adjust the bottom accordingly to go with the land, but that would mean it would be incredibly tall in parts. And would need a lot of sandstone.

What do you suggest?

I think it's ok going up and down with the land; that's more realistic.

I would have given it a less European design and looked more into Middle Eastern architecture, though.

Funny, I didn't know the great wall of China was European (my inspiration). There's only so much you can do at the scale I'm doing it at though considering everything is made from massive blocks, and there are no slopes in Minecraft.

I did play around with the gate design but the one in the screenshots is the only one that really worked for me.

EDIT: Maybe you can come up with something in creative if you think you can do better than me?

I never said I could do better! I meant no offence! I might have a go designing something. And sorry for my cruel and ignorant accusation that your wall is a mimicry of typical European fortifications.

Looks cool, I approve of the design. And I don't mind the elevation differences in the wall - it's not as if the town was set between mountains and hills.

Ah - I wasn't offended at all and typed out that last post quickly so my wording was off. Sorry if I came off that way. Shame voice tone doesn't transfer through text.

I simply meant that if you have a better idea then please feel free to suggest it - And that applies for everyone else too. I mean this thing's going around the entire town and everybody will be always looking at it and building their structures near it, so it's important that it looks good in a way that pleases at least most people.
