Incidently, I still like a couple of those bands. Blind Guardian and Green Carnation in particular are amazing, so go fuck yourself and take your trying-too-hard metal with you.

Very, very little symphonic metal do I listen to these days, but when I do, I listen to Delain and Within Temptation.

The last Opeth album was actually really good considering how it's such a departure from their signature sound. I've never been a massive fan of their metal stuff (very hit or miss in terms of albums, though they have some amazing songs), but this feels much less forced and more natural than the stuff they've been churning out over the last decade, bar Damnation. Mikael really knows his 1970's progressive rock, and can emulate the main bands of that era quite well while still maintaining his own unique sound.

Been obsessing over this band for a couple weeks now. Really fucking good stuff. Guys are fantastic musicians. It's really a shame that the frontman jumped of a church.

I really like Megadeth at the minute. I've had this album since the release but it's only recently that I'm giving it a great deal of attention, and it's probably their best to date (definitely better than Endgame, but that was pretty good too.)
