I was watching Minecon live and just as notch pulled the lever to release Minecraft everything froze up and I missed it.

But yeah. 1.0.0. Minecraft already has four reviews, and for the time being is the third highest-rated game of all time on Metacritic (and the second-highest doesn’t really count since it’s obviously shit).

I watched the Live stream for a while then got bored. I didn't see the lever bit though. I regret it

I've been playing 1.0.0, Everything Is all well and good

Spider eyes, crunching bones and deadly enders, this is the Minecraft I've been looking forward, I just hope it doesn't get worse as I progress.

Creative mode, made portal, found Nether Fortress, be sheer luck re-emerged in the real world in an NPC Village, cheated for Enderman eyes, followed them, dug deep, entered portal...

I know I basically cheated but wow, that was cool We have got to one day get together a raid team on the OWF server for that.
Didn't get the achievement 'cus I don't have the preceding ones, and I don't intend to do it in creative again; I'd rather get it genuinely on the server.
Just gotta get my head around enchantments, first...

So I figured I'd play a bit of SSP, with 1.0 being released. I entered my world, created around the time of 1.8 or so. First thing I see upon leaving my shelter is all the water in the world freezing over (open water at least, not in caves and such), despite the fact that it is not a snowy area. Anyone experiencing similar things?

Otherwise, it is an excellent world for anyone who loves mountains and/or challenges because of lack of trees. Seed: "19881014".

The world generator has been updated again - Much like how Beta 1.7 worlds have different biomes than they originally did after Beta 1.8 was released, it seems the same thing has now happened to 1.8 biomes. Also you now get fault lines between old Beta 1.8 and new Final 1.0 chunks.

Parts were. Its understandable though. The Yogscast interview with Notch was really awkward, but when you think about it you are talking to the guy who created Minecraft, It would be awkward.

I thought MineCon was quite funny. Don't forget that these are not industry professionals, they are just ordinary people.

If you play Minecraft, could you please complete my short survey? I'm doing some university research about the potential of using Minecraft in teaching or collaborative capacities. Thank you! http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/XNLH6M6

I tried elaborating on the uses of video games in language teaching on multiple occasions at uni. I don't think I was ever taken very seriously. Anyway, sure, I'll help you out there.

Thanks for completing my survey.

There is an interesting website designed to help schools with setting up Minecraft accounts. http://minecraftedu.com/

According to the MinecraftEdu team, if you can arrange for the institution to purchase the game copies, a deal with Mojang will be made so that the game can be used for educational purposes at a reduced price.

I think this is a great step forward. It's more accessible than Second Life, less laggy, less money-focussed. There's also a self titled "Minecraft Teacher" who is trying to use Minecraft in his lessons. http://minecraftteacher.net/

Notch Vs. Yogscast

Shit is sturring.
The Yogscast and Mojang have fallen out.

:
So, with this shitstorm of Notch vs. Yogscast, I thought I would weigh in my own opinion on it, such that it is.

I'm not sure that an "f-bomb" is the sole reason for Notch wanting to not work with them anymore.

Yogscast was invited as a special guest to MineCon and was even given their own panel. What I assumed, and what I believed that Mojang assumed when they invited them to a panel, was that they would speak for an hour (hour and a half?) about their Youtube videos, podcasts and the like. They would talk about their experiences, making videos, how they got so popular, etc. Instead, what we seemed to get was an hour of them showing videos of popular builds done using Minecraft. A whole team was up on stage and it seemed only Simon/Lewis spoke.

In addition, the entire team acted like a group of self-entitled pricks the entire weekend. I worked as one of the volunteer staff that weekend and they demanded to be let in to the Scrolls/Cobalt play test area before the rest of the crowd was. We allowed them to enter for 5 minutes, as we were trying to keep to a schedule, but they created a big stink when they were asked to leave so the people who paid good money to come to MineCon could play the games too. They acted like they were the Kings of Minecraft simply because they are minor celebrities in the Youtube world.

Adding on to that, they offered to sign things for fans, in the same vein as Mojang did on Friday night. Mojang was highly classy. They talked to fans, signed whatever they wanted, and all of them, despite being exhausted, were always friendly to whatever fan wanted a word with them, even if it was just to send them away. They even signed more for the ones that were cut off in line Friday night on Saturday. Yogscast, on the other hand, passed out tickets to people who wanted an autograph during their own panel! When fans complained that they couldn't get an autograph, their response was along the lines of, "True fans would have skipped the panel to get the autograph."

Finally, on a more personal experience. My friends and I entered the main hall right after the Yogscast panel to get good seats for the closing ceremony. The Styrofoam sign that said "Yogscast" that was slapped over the "Activate Minecraft" sign on the lever on stage during their panel was being removed by the stage manager after their panel, presumably to be thrown away. My friend wanted the sign as a keepsake from MineCon, and the sign was given to her. After the closing ceremony, one of their members hunted us down to get back this sign. She used to be a huge Yogscast fan, but this experience has soured her.

In Short: The Yogscast team didn't appreciate the gesture that was given to them to be invited as a special panel to MineCon and they treated it with almost indifference. They acted like it was Mojang that should be appreciative of them gracing MineCon with their presence.

Notch may have blamed the fallout between Mojang and Yogscast on an "f-bomb" in front of kids, but I think it was more than just that. I think that Yogscast wasn't what they were hoping they would be. Mojang should probably have reviewed what Yogscast was going to be like more than they did, but MineCon had many issues like that. It wasn't perfect, and it was a bit sloppy, but I don't think Mojang should suffer all the blame for issues with Yogscast.

Just my two cents.

EDIT: For those of you who want proof, the only proof I have is my staff shirt. I can take a photo of it when I get home.
http://twitter.com/#!/search/Yogscast

Apprently Simon and Lewis were acting like real jerks at MineCon which pissed off Notch and the rest of Mojang. This is big stuff, Its trending on Twitter and everything.

:
we are about to embark on a 24 hour journey home so will officially respond when back in the UK - Lewis
EDIT: Yogscast have lost 100,000 Subscribers, No matter They still have over 1 Million subs

I think this is a reality check for everyone who might have thought MineCon would be squeaky clean and without incident. The Yogscast guys didn't seem all that bad on stage. Maybe it's just a case of arrogance or getting too excited that made them act that way. Swearing in front of children is not cool and not professional.

As for Yogscast being banned forever, well... nothing is forever. If they clean up their act and apologise to Notch, they may have a second chance one day. Regardless, next year's MineCon will be stricter and kept under more control. Hopefully they can get the Minecraft Dad on board. He presents family entertainment that everyone can enjoy.

Of course it's arrogance. They went from a random gaming Youtube channel (with it's roots in WoW of all games) to a fanbase of over a million people. Minecraft wouldn't be where it is today without them and they know it.

That and it being in Vegas, I'm 100% sure that alcohol played part in this. Not saying they were drunk off their asses but I'm sure they had a few drinks during the day.

Not to mention the OWF MC server - one of their early videos that someone shared here was a direct influence for me starting experimenting with server creation back then.

I haven't seen much footage of Minecon, probably just the Notch interview, which I found extremely unprofessional. I mean, before this they did interviews with game developers and other people who are related to gaming, and those were quite good. Kinda strange how the quality plummets when it's the creator of the game that is the base of one of their most successful series. I'd pull myself together and come up with some proper interview questions if I had to do something like this, and not discuss Skyrim and stuff. Oh well, we shall wait and see what they have to say about this.

I think Notch doesn't understand there sence of humour. The boys are so sarcasitc to each other and other people and I think personally this is all of a bit of an over-reation.
on the other hand I can see this happenering, They must feel pretty good if there little YouTube channel has become a million sub strong. The whole thing about swaring is I think more Simon's doing. Lewis is way less arrogant then Simon and The rest of the Yogscast didn't even get a say on stage. (which is stupid and Simon and Lewis are taking all the fame)

And the interview with Notch was pretty awful but I think its the first time they met him and I think they were a little startstuck.

Personally I think Simon and Lewis know they were in the wrong and are feeling pretty crap about it. We don't know what really happened though. What pisses me off is people on titter unsubscribing to the yogscast because they completely beileve Notch's tweets. Y'know they might be a chance that this is a joke or Notch is just trolling. The Yogscast haven't even had a say yet.

Whatever happens I know they will say sorry and I will continue watching and loving The Yogscast.

Huh? Minecraft is where it is cos of Yogscast? I thought it was the other way around. People started liking their minecraft videos a lot and thus they got popular cos of it.

if anything, it was more of a mutual benefit for both Yogscast and Mojang.

but I honestly never liked Yogscast. Ive said this many times, lol... But their stuff is so obviously scripted and pre-planned. Like I don't mind planned stuff, but it just seems so forced and awkward when I watch them.

I liked OMFGcata's Minecraft vids more... Way more genuine and funny.

Ive said this many times, lol... But their stuff is so obviously scripted and pre-planned.
Their series did not start out being scripted: you'll notice that it was originally a how-to sort of thing, a spontaneous introduction to the game. Then Israphel and the rest popped up, along with a story, which obviously needed some kind of scripting. Also, they do a lot of videos where they add their commentary to pre-recorded gameplay footage (see their Fallout:NV or Skyrim playthrough), so they obviously have some knowledge in advance about the stuff happening in the video.

But let's not turn this thread into a Yogscast discussion.

Some of their stuff is really quite good. I applaud them for realising that watching someone else play Minecraft for hours is boring and they're doing some really cool things with SoI.

I agree with Joe that this is all stupid. There's way too much needless melodrama about the whole thing.

I think it is mostly misunderstanding.

Okay. So I'm not here to stir the pot, but I do want to set a couple of the facts straight. I am not directly connected to Yogscast. But I was the staff member who wrangled them from one place to the next (wearing a black fedora).

First, to @amazingorigami - if you are, in fact, the person who had the sign in FedEx, then thank you again for giving it back to the Yogscast crew. My other teammate took it directly up to them and he said there were cheers of joy that we were able to find it. I had the sign custom made by FedEx earlier that morning for the event. I completely apologize if you felt I tried to rip it out of your bag. I was merely trying to help peel it away carefully. If I had known it left gummy stuff in your pack, I would have found you a second bag as a replacement. Again, thank you for returning the sign. You were super awesome about it and could have said no. But you gave it up without hesitation and with a smile. My apologies again that you ended up with a sticky bag. :

As for the Scrolls/Cobalt. Yogscast made no demands. We politely asked the crew from Mojang if they could record a quick segment about the game, and they agreed it could be done before the doors opened. It is accurate there was a request for 5 minutes, but then a couple of the Mojang team offered to demo the games to them. When the doors opened, the Mojang team decided to continue the demo rather than ask the Yogscast folks to move out of the way. There was no stink about being asked to leave. In fact, when one of the other staff mistakenly took the mouse away from the Mojang team member who was demoing scrolls, they accepted it and moved on. (They paid to come to Minecon just like everyone else btw)

As for the tickets: I numbered them. I handed them out. They were not handed out before the panel ended. And they were handed out in the expo hall - right next to where the autographs were being done. In fact, I waited until after the panel was complete, and folks moved into the expo hall so they would have an equal opportunity. Unfortunately, the expo hall was scheduled to close at 4p, and the Yogscast team were given a very strict cutoff. The line of "True fans would have skipped the panel to get the autograph" is inaccurate. They wanted everyone to be able to enjoy the panel.

It was a good show. I'm a little disappointed there is this much hate and discontent going about without folks knowing the whole story.
And also.

:
Look at Lomadia's (Hannah's) post in response:

"I find the words 'work with' to be very interesting in this - you will see why when Lewis gets home and makes his v-log of Minecon.

He used masturbation jokes in our videos, but then criticises us for using old footage with swearing in, when we have limited resources to edit the footage in Vegas, and also neither Mojang nor IGN gave us any guidelines as to what we were and weren't allowed to do - the people in the panel and on the livestream chose to come and see us - so you'd think they'd know swearing is likely.

We did about six hours of signings and photos in general - no kid or parent complained to us about swearing.

I won't say more as Lewis' v-log will expose everything in wonderfully high definitioned rage, so give us a few days to get our thoughts in order. "

edit:It appears she has edited out a chunk of it leaving only the first line

I just think people are silly for saying that Mojang got to where it is cos of Yogscast. I stand by the notion that it was a symbiotic relationship.
