I didn't think Avatar's plot was shit, it's just a very uh, recurring story.

One that needs to be bashed into peoples' heads.

It's a story that never gets old. The script was nothing to write home about though. Honestly, I was more dazzled by the creativity put into Pandora itself rather than the special effects.

The 6-legged animals were particularly interesting. My favorite creature had to be the lizards whose method of flight involved spinning.

I loved Avatar, and the story is indeed something that people need to see a lot. If only to just get a bit of morals from it.

But the visuals were orgasmiiiic x_x And so was the creativity. Everything worked so well with that movie, even if the story wasn't super-original. In fact, I actually watched a movie called "Terra" that was extremely similar. It was about aliens living in peace, and then humans came cos they destroyed their own home and yada yada.

Anyway Alice is probably a movie I'd watch again(maybe) during autumn. It seems like a good movie for autumn.
I don't get why people always go "That movie was baaad!" when a movie has a story that's been done before... I mean, does anyone realize how hard it is to be original these days? ... The more original stories are created, the less "spaces" for original stories are left.
Also, in reality there really aren't many plots one can write about.
I think Alice was good if you just want an easy movie that doesn't make you think much(unlike Avatar). And I think it's both good for adults as well as kids.

I think it's a bad think to limit oneself only to films/stories that are super-complicated and full of symbolism. Sometimes it's good to turn your brain off and enjoy a movie for what it is. A pleasing story with nice visuals.

Anyway by comparison, Avatar would win a million times of course.. Imo.

^ This x 1000.

Filmmaking is complex process. To make a film even remotely watchable these days is a fucking feat because people are so unappreciative of the simple things. If every film was mindblowingly awesome, none of them would be.

Now, does this line of reasoning excuse people like Friedberg and Seltzer? No.

Saw Sunshine again. The burnt man was a bit stupid and the plot had some major holes, but it was quite moving sometimes. The final scenes where the main bloke jumps between the payload sections while remembering his dream to mournful music was very well done. Just a shame they screw it up at the end where he POKES THE SUN.

About what? The sun burning out?
Don't worry, the sun's only middle-aged. We've still got roughly another five billion years before it begins to fizzle.

I finally got around to watching Up. It was alright, but I absolutely hate the "main character makes a poor choice, temporarily loses companions, but then he realizes his mistake, makes it all better in the end and gets them back" template.

Luckily when I went to see 2012, it was so over the top that it didn't leave me with many bad thoughts.

I watched A Serious Man last night. It was fucking fantastic. Instantly one of my favorite Coen brothers films.

It's more or less a modern retelling of the story of Job. Except that it's hilarious.

Also, Dorian saw The Lovely Bones and said it was nice.

Saw Precious and Up back-to-back today. I was expecting something more like Freedom Writers based on what I had heard and seen about Pecious. Loved it, though it kind of depresses me that this is how US citizens on welfare are depicted internatioally. Up was adorable and funny.

Men In Black again.

It's got to be the best all-round film ever. Good soundtrack, right mix of action blockbuster and alienating weirdness.
