Even if the games never get on xbox. It's still nice that they tried. They'll probably get through but I thought they said before that they got permission.

I read somewhere that SligStorm game idea will be finished into an entire game for PS3 and 360, but it may just be some rumor.

That SligStorm article on the Oddworld Wiki is rather awful, I think i'll go round and tidy it up a bit.

The Oddworld Wiki in general is extremely poor, I can't say I've been on it more than once.

I had noticed that, but to stay on topic, the Hand of Odd page has not been updated on there either. However on the page there is some concept art showing Meep and members of his species.

Reckon they'll pick up the character again for Hand of Odd? Even just as a minor character I wouldn't mind seeing him pop up, as a nod to the past

I don't think I particularly need evidence because it's just my opinion :-/ but if I were to back it up with evidence I would probably use the original screenshots which kinda look like Munch. I can't do that though because I'm posting on my phone.
The original plan for HoO was to use the ALIVE2 engine from Munch. That would explain why the screenshots looked similar. Now... who knows how it's going to turn out?

:
It shouldn't have console ports though, console RTS games almost never go well.
Which would probably be why Stewart Gilray didn't include the consoles in the list of possible ports:

A PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release is unlikely. "It works well with touchscreen interfaces or mouse control direct. On consoles, however, you get analogue sticks or your Move controller. While Move is good for certain kinds of gameplay and it's responsive compared to Kinect, it still isn't that intuitive.

Yeah, I'm just saying that because some people here seemed to be hoping for console ports. I may be reading the posts wrong.

Okay, fair enough. Just be careful not to mix up "shouldn't" with "wouldn't" or "won't".

Has someone spewed a load of crap into the Hand of Odd article, about gameplay mechanics that can not possibly be known yet? Makes it sound like a bad Warcraft 3 mod.

To me Hand of Odd sounds like when Halo was brought back to its original idea of an RTS on Halo Wars, Hand of Odd might not be too bad.
I don't quite see where you get the idea of it to be a bad Warcraft 3 Mod, heck I might even attempt that and see my outcome! :P
But I have no experience in Warcraft 3 modding, only mapping.

Personally, I couldn't care less how it'll end up. I'll buy it just because its oddworld. And the idea of an Oddworld RTS game makes me all more excited.

So you're saying even if it turns out to be a pile of crap and everyone hated it (aka deadliest catch: alaskan storm), you'd still buy it?
Not saying that it will be rubbish, but it seems a bit risky to buy it just it being oddworld.
Sorry if I've made any spelling mistakes, I'm using the DSi browser...

To be honest I think the oddworld fanbase is 10x stronger than Half-Life's, Dooms (Maybe), than any other game I have seen.

I don't think it's stronger than doom's.
There's a lot more people on there particularly for modding.
Some of the stuff they make (deathmatch levels) are amazing.

Maybe Half-life I dunno.
There's still a lot of people modding that as well which keeps it going.
Seems like user-created content is making it survive.

Oddworld's only starting to get user-created levels...

We've been here, with no game since 2005, no resources to really make any mods without Paul, we are far stronger because we've had less to be satisfied with yet we're still here getting the odd meeting with Lorne or a chat with Alf...for me that's damn good proof we're one of the strongest fan bases I know.

That's why you can't really compare it to a fanbase such as Half-Life, which has had stuff to keep fans happy for a longer period of time (except over the past few years), so it's difficult to tell what they'd be like in our position. You can argue that while they have a far larger fanbase than Oddworld's, you could say we're more dedicated because we've stuck through it longer without getting any significant new material.

Anyway...

I agree that the Oddworld fan base is big indeed. This forum and the people at GameCityNights are great examples of that.

But bigger then Half-Life and Dooms? I don't think so.

I wouldn't be too surprised that the doom fanbase has many mostly for modding, and have some pretty neat players within it. But Half-Life, I was highly involved into it for over a year (last year to months ago) and the people are absolutely terrible, I do enjoy the mods the people make, and some of the co-op and death matches, but people there are terrible for the simplest things.
I am also mentioning even the Half-Life 1 BETA fanbase, their worse.
While Half-Life does have a large fanbase, its just bleh.
I have met decent people out of it, but I commonly find ones who just make no sense at what their doing, attempt to make a mod and fail, or know how to make one, and troll on one that doesn't deserve the trolling.

So far the Oddworld Fanbase, this fanbase is more respectful in my opinion, and doesn't even do modding unless you consider the level editing modding, yet is in my opinion 10x stronger than Half-Life's. Still keeping up ever since the last game released (2005, Stranger's Wrath) all these years later. Yet Valve constantly makes game, not entirely Half-Life of course. But they seem to dig it all.

BACK TO TOPIC OF HAND OF ODD ANNOUNCEMENT!
