Dragonball was shonen in concept, Z and GT are shonen in demographics.

Everything about the Dragonball series is very shounen.

I did like one shounen for awhile, that was D.Gray-man, but it's levels of shounen-ness got to me after awhile.

The manga Lucifer and Biscuit hammer has some shounen traits so it could be considered a shounen, but it's unique and original and good so it gets a pass.

Eh. Shonen to me means 'Coming of age adventure' so whilst the first series is VERY shonen, the second series is more of a clusterfuck of gradually more stupid threats to the earth with the development of Gohan as a character the only realy shonen aspect. Then that stopped when he hit puberty and got his Z sword and so did any reason I had to watch the show.

I don't know shonen that much but I do like shojo. Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's is probably drawing with Kanon and Monster as my favourite anime.

My favourite arc was actually the Garlic Jr filler arc, because Gohan, Piccolo and Krillin actually got to do legitimately cool shit.

I always found that the series was most interesting when Goku was dead or on another planet (which was most the time if you think about it). This is the only time the focus shifted to the neglected characters, and we got to see them kick ass for once.

Well, he was, but Toriyama could have done better bringing him back. Goku had his moments, but I think he worked much better as a unifying inspirational figure than as the ultimate weapon, villain dies now.

I think I gave that up during Skypeia. I was going to pick it up again, but then I saw they had an afro skeleton on the crew, and figured I might as well just start over when the series ends. It's got to be close to ending by now, it's almost been going 13 years, right?

When I was a kid, this was true for me too.

But mostly because Garlic Jr putting God in a bottle and actually talking over Earth and making every person on it into mindless violence addicts was actually a pretty interesting idea for the show. But then they ruined it by going back to the generic formula right after. Not that it's their fault, since they had to adapt the manga.

I liked Garlic Jr. He was like a more serious and dangerous version of Pilaf. Very awkward though trying to tie the thing in with the first DBZ movie.

I actually really love Dead Zone. I think it was technically considered the last Dragonball movie as opposed to the first DBZ movie, or was at very least considered a bridge between the two.

Yeah, it was animated by the same group that had animated Dragonball, which is slightly noticeable by the art style, and of course, superior animation. Once Dragonball Z started, they went the cheaper route, and the art wasn't as rounded.

I watch Bleach, Pokémon, Ranma ½ and Yu-Gi-Oh (Only series 1 and 2). but tbh I rarely watch anime at all.

I really like the style and have tried getting into it (drawing and reading manga) but I just can't for some odd reason. but i can understand why its very popular.
