I'm not sure how to feel about Silverfish (you might want to turn your volume down for this one).

A weird little creature popping out of mined stone randomly, and then rapidly multiplying? That might discourage me from mining at all.

Silverfish will make a nice addition to mining I think, and with the new health mechanic it's affordable for them to be a regular occurrence as well.

Silverfish only spawn from mined stone bricks in strongholds. Block ID 97 (the silverfish spawner that doesn't spawn naturally) is probably at the heart of those stone bricks.

Am I the only one that thinks Endermen should do more damage or have more health? Ever since I discovered they die in 2 hits from a diamond sword I'm just not intimidated by them.

Everything dies in two hits from a diamond sword though. Try fighting them before you’ve started your own National Guard.

But even without the greater weapons, they're no greater threat than any other hostile mob. To the point that it's barely worth the effort of trying to avoid looking at them.

How do you deal with Silverfish? From what I've seen they seem to multiply much quicker than they can be killed.

They can climb, and they will do so too. Haven't you seen that video?

If they only occur in strongholds, then I am somewhat relieved.

So I gave in and played the 1.8 pre-release and i've got to say Minecraft looks and feels a lot diffrent. I love the new Orange lighting from torches and fire. It gives your house a nice warm feel to it =3

I can't say I like the NPC Villages. I would make it too easy on your first night finding a house with lighting but I guess there kinda cool.

When you create a new world, you have the option of allowing villages/NPCs to spawn or not. If you don’t like them, you don’t have to see them.

I’ve been trying out the OptiFine mod today. If you’re on a slow as balls PC like me, I really recommend it—I’ve gone from about 15-20FPS to about 25-35FPS average.

Oh, yeah. I was going to post something about that the other day. It gave me a much more consistent framerate while using smooth lighting, and it has a brightness slider for those of us still on 1.7.3.

Ugh, weekend then.

As expected, Mojang are working on bug fixes. ("1.7 worlds should get structures" is an interesting update - I wonder if they'll spawn randomly on old chunks, or if they simply didn't appear in new chunks after 1.8 on 1.7 worlds).

In the mean time, I've been trying the 1.8 pre-release. I can't decide if the game is now too easy or not considering health now only restores slowly over time if your hunger bar is full, but finding food is incredibly easy, and while you can't restore health immediately when you want to (making lava and fire a hell of a lot more deadly), you can sprint everywhere now to dodge mobs - All you need is food.

It feels like the hunger bar should drain twice as fast as it does currently - Maybe that's something which will be changed in the actual update.

Travelling by Minecart for long distances is still a lot easier than sprinting though, perhaps they aren't obsolete after all.

I'm not entirely sure I like the new lighting - It looks a bit better if you up the new brightness slider to 50%, but the yellow tinge that the torches give off... Eurgh. And night time isn't dark anymore. Caves still are entirely dark, though.

Also F3 can no longer be used to find mobs through walls - The tags are gone.

Oh and for those of you who like brick: Clay is a LOT easier to find now. And I do like the new combat mechanics and new blocks. And Endermen scare the shit out of me. I'm loving the new biomes too.

It's not gone, you can still use it to find your co-ordinates. You just can't use it to locate mobs anymore. Well, it was sort of cheating.

EDIT: People will also be pleased to know that save/world files don't take up as much space as they used to. I started a new savegame, explored a very large area (well, in a straight line), and it's only 16 MBs. Plus when it's not crashing on me due to a memory leak, it runs a hell of a lot better than it used to, as well.

Also clouds are now higher than the highest level you can build, so they won't go through buildings anymore.

For a while I've been planning an adventure map that would make use of 1.8's new blocks, and I was going to start work on it as soon as 1.8 was released. Yesterday I decided that I'd just download the prelease and start now.

(spoiler tags because DH used them)

It's not a world I'm going to play in, so I've been building it in Creative Mode and haven't experienced the hunger thing yet (I think I heard you'd be able to changed a world to Adventure Mode later on; if that's not the case I'll just use this to plan it and rebuild everything later in Adventure), but the new terrain features I've seen are really nice - abandoned mine shafts are creepy as heck, and the tiny blue spiders would, I imagine, be hard to deal with if they could hurt you (not to mention POISON you - egad!). Ravines are neat too; I've found a few surface ones, including two that crossed each other in an X.

I like the new lighting a lot, too.

That always pissed me off. Remember the story about the creeper who exploded me off of the canyon wall? My house was on top of this huge cliff. Clouds were always invading my house, it annoyed me because I couldn't see anything until it passed through.

There's no ingame way of moving a map from creative to adventure, but I'd assume that by entering the game folders it's possible to move a map from one to t'other.

(I assume it'd be somewhat like installing an adventure map.)
