You're a minecraft player who lurks the minecraft OWF server thread, chipping in to tell people they shouldn't try to force joining when you yourself don't have the privelege.

Seems mighty suspicious to me.

I've seen your server, and I know I'm not on the whitlist.
Looks interesting, but I actually have 2 other servers to go on.
Dunno why I'm posting in this so much.

You mean you managed to get on despite not being on the whitelist? I wonder how secure it is?

Oh yeah the mob spawning issues may be something to do with the server view distance being set so low.

:
Mob spawn rate seems significantly lessened when server view-distance is under 10, possibly related to mobs seeming not to despawn from chunks unloaded earlier than usual due to the setting. Set view-distance back to 10 (default) for proper behavior.
Havoc, if it's already at 10, try setting it to 15 or so and see what happens. This may also explain why I keep finding sheared sheep everywhere despite nobody being on for ages.

It's not just about rep power, you need to spend some months on the forums contributing to discussions, adding your opinion to topics and generally gaining a good reputation as a contributing member to OWF. And you need to do this through a genuine desire to be a member of the community, not simply so you can get into the OWF Minecraft server - Because it will show. And this is what we keep telling you.

Have you tried the search button? It runs on fairy dust and unicorn juice. Or if that's too complicated, try reading the thread titles in 'Forum Suggestions and Help'.

People ask your question a lot.

I'd teach em good.

Forget you guys. Rep is not the real benchmark of one's ability to use an online message board like a sentient being.

Destro, it might be best if you looked for more awesome servers than ours. It might save you the time.

Yesterday, while I was exploring a cave (which had provided very little resistance to my exploration efforts), a stream of lava suddenly disappeared for no apparent reason. I was mildly terrified, to say the least. Considering that this cave is in the close vicinity of Max's compound, I thought I was about to see a well-conceived trap.

I've set it to 15 now, let's see how that goes.

BTW I did notice that there is a huge cavern under the water right between my villa and 2fort. And there are a LOT of mobs trapped there. I was on a slower computer yesterday and it rendered the world poorly, allowing me to see trough everything. In that cavern I must have seen like 7 Creepers, 6 skeletons and a bunch of zombies and there's prolly a lot of zombies and spiders too. If they don't get a chance to despawn that's prolly the reason we see so few hostile mobs

Yeah, I've found mobs underground. Had a zombie dungeon that was also having a bunch of skeletons spawning in it as there was a natural crevice next to the dungeon. It seems to only be the surface where they arent spawning.

And these Endermen sound interesting as well as potentially frustrating with the whole "moving blocks" thing. I assume if you just look directly at them you can just arrow-spam them until they die, though?

After looking at some images of town halls, I came up with this concept for the front of our new settlement. It's quite clay-heavy if brick is to be used as the main material. Tell me what you think.

The program I used is MC Structure Planner. Quite handy once you get used to it.

I prefer INV edit in a single player map myself, then it's in-game rather than emulated.

Looks pretty good though - But we may need to search far and wide to find all that clay.

EDIT: I built it with INV edit in Single Player in about 20 minutes - Looks a lot better in-game then it does in that designer. I modified it slightly to look a little better. It's a straight-forward design to follow and looks good, but damn, it's gonna need a lot of clay. And lots of sandstone too but that's easy to get hold of.

I think piston doors would be better - they could be higher then, too.

Also, if we're going to make a town, could we work out the layout of the streets before we begin, so it's nice and neat? This is something I sketched up a couple of days ago:

1 == Town Hall, 2 == Inn, 3 == Train Station. If we worked on it together until we were all happy I think we'd all be more pleased with it when it was done.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing - The alloted spaces would have to be clearly marked out first, and we'd have to think of the scale too.

The plan looks nice but I'd get rid of the diagonals for the sake of ease - In a world made from square blocks, diagonal buildings wouldn't be easy to implement.

I motion that we add lava to the main entrance in some form.

Preferably in those crevices.

I would like to propose the use of sliding glass doors instead of wood for the public buildings.

Also, are we going to build a city wall?

I like the glass door idea.

As for a wall, I think it would be a good idea to not only have a wall, but an illuminated area. That way we'd reduce creeper-related accidents.

Then I guess the first thing we should agree on is the general style of this settlement. I'd go for a more classic look, nothing too modern, with the town wall around it. Including lava and sliding glass doors (which otherwise looks amazing) is slightly conflicting with my image of the settlement, but noone ever said it's my settlement. So let's see what you all think.

Yes, we should do a plan for the whole town. I agree with assigning players to certain plots inside the walls. We could also set a certain height limit for the houses we build for ourselves individually (i.e. our homes on the plots). An elaborate town hall with a giant tower of stone next to it wouldn't look very nice.

Depends on your image of a settlement I suppose. I personally like somewhat modern looks, maybe mixed with some older wood and stone themes. But I could go without the glass doors

I'd also like to propose we create 1 main mining shaft that is located within the city and spreads underground. This way we don't get a thousand holes in the ground and it's a bit more of a group effort to be mining.

For that I suggest to build what I built nearby to RF - Huge shaft down to bedrock level (or near bedrock level) with a piston trapdoor and a small pool of water at the bottom, and a minecart lift to get people back up. I've found many resources with that shaft, even if it means digging a bit.

In case you haven't been paying attention: The idea is that we build a second town far, far away after 1.8 so we get access to the new dungeons and NPC villages that won't spawn in existing world chunks before 1.8. The second town will be connected to Genesis via portals through the nether. A railway line already exists.

Uh, I will be building my own mine independent of anyone else's. I don't want anyone digging where I am.

Also, I imagine since we'll be building our own houses in Exoddus Settlement, they're all going to be different, so there's not a lot of point obsessing over a particular style, but giving the 'public buildings' a particular style, like Dripik's design, is a idea I like. Also, having roads and street-names would be cool. I suggest we build the town hall to contain the portal that will open there, if at all possible, so deciding its shape and layout may have to wait until there's a portal for it to contain.
Also, if the portal's going to be at the centre of town there's not a lot we can plan before we see where it is. If it's over the sea we should go back to the Nether and try again, but after that, whether it's in a plain or mountains or whatever, I think we should keep it where it is and deal with what we get. A mountain town would be as cool, if rather more challenging, than a plains town, I think.

Also I like the idea of city walls, but let's make sure there's a good number of plots inside, so that later players get to build there too. I guess we could build a 'lower city' at a later point if necessary though.

I'll happily contribute all the clay I possess (which is none. Sorry. But if I did have some (or if I get any in the meantime) it would all go to this project).

I found some clay at Genesis and also in a chest at Nile Lair. Processed it into brick blocks, I now have about a hundred of them. Which is roughly enough for the front of my town hall concept. We might have to reconsider using something other than brick blocks.
