If that was the case Havoc, completing a Rubik's Cube would be something everyone can do. Even blind folded. There are certain algorithms in which you can get cubelet x to cubelet y without messing up the rest of your hard work. You have to hold the cube in a certain position for this to work though.

There is such a pattern because I've seen it be used.

It sounds like Havoc was talking about the Devil's algorithm, which is only conjectured to exist.

I read somewhere that no matter how messed up the cube is, you can always solve it with a certain combination and number of moves. If that's true it's just a matter of memorizing and practice. The robot ealier works with the same principle I think.
Any Rubik's cube can be solved in 20 moves or fewer. That said, there's no simple rule for finding those 20 moves; that number was determined by using supercomputers to try out every possible permutation.

OMG flashback moment....

I remember playing at a friend's house. In one of my friend's Nintendo World magazines I found an advertisement for Rubik's cube that had a kid who looked like Urkel with a Rubik's cube in his hand. I HATED IT SO MUCH. I promptly named the kid Rubik, tore the page out of the magazine, and punched the page all over the house screaming STUPID RUBIK!
