My guess is that it's been ages since a Duke Nukem game came out, and that it's original fanbase dissolved either out of no faith of DNF coming out, or they got pissed off by it.

That and some gamers in this generation might not even know who Duke Nukem is.

Like I said, my guess. I may be wrong. I usually am.

You do know that the majority of hardcore gamers are around OANST and Nate's age, right?

Because to make a profit, you'll first have to break even and I don't see that happening with the insane developing costs this game swallowed over the years.

Furthermore I don't think there's much of a fanbase for this game. Had it not been the subject of constant jokes and had it not been popular for the sole reason of not existing, people could probably care less about this game.

DNF is going to be the typical sort of game no-one really wants to spend any money on, at least not full retail price, but does want to see how it turned out. So I predict that the illegal download numbers are going to exceed the actual sales, and not real profit of any kind is going to be made.

Hasn't the publisher changed at one point? So the publisher's costs would only be the development from that day forward?

I suspect most of the cost of the date to this point has been written off.

From what I understand Take Two purchased the original publishing rights to Duke Nukem for 12 million dollars at the time and later added 2 million in developing costs. That's 14 million dollars to be cleared before any profit at all can be made.

I've already seen stores where you can preorder the game for around 44 dollars or so, which would mean they'd have to sell at least 310.000 copies of the game to break even. For a game franchise this old, with most fans having moved on and current younger gamers not having a clue what Duke Nukem is, I don't think they are going to make that number in retail/legal sales. It's not a highly anticipated title like CoD, it won't have people sleeping infront of gamestores and the only thing game magazines have to say about is: "Hey guess what, DNF is actually being released. You can go get it if you still care."

I think Take Two is going to be having a party if they manage to break even. Judging the current situation they are merely doing damage control at the moment.

Well not on TV, then again I don't watch much American TV so I wouldn't really know. All I know is that, between all the casual family shit like Wii jumping games and Kinect fitness stuff, over here there are extremely little TV commercials for games. Last one I saw was for Black Ops and before that was GTA4.

Marketing on the internet is kind of redundant for DNF, given it's already wildly popular around these parts. It's the offline crowd you need to get to, and even if it's censored the anti-gaming lobby is going to have a field day with DNF's trailer, let alone the game.

And really, how is it any worse than, say, Black Ops? (Which was a terrible game) Black Ops had a shitload of gravelly voiced dudes slitting throats. This is some sunglasses wearing fuck with a flattop mumbling around some strippers.
