Indeed, much of the older games (not just from oddworld) had the 'Throw your controler against the wall' element build in. Especialy games like Donkey Kong Country were to drive you absolutely mad. I wasted a lot of good controlers on those games.
Same with AO, you had to know what you were doing else it was back to where you started. Generaly thats not even a bad thing, but AO did take it a little far if you actualy wanted to complete all the secret areas. I guess thats why they put in the quike save option in AE.

I love quicksave when youre stuck on something, but if you use it all the time, in a way its kind of like cheating.

It can also get you screwed. If you are going for saving all the Mudokons and finally get passed a really hard part so you quicksave but then you realize you killed that mudokon, then you have to resart path.

It's even more anoying if you quicksave just before you get killed... I once quicksaved right before a drill cut me to pieces... so everytime it reloaded I didn't have time to even restart the path. Made me start all over again! Luckily this was just in Necrum Mines, but it still sucked bigtime :P.

That's why I did solid saves at the end of each level. Also it meant that I could go back and redo any level I liked.

I do that with certain levels. I have one save titled "glukkon". Its this part in the game where you can smack the crap out of this one Glukkon, I liked to do that so I saved a individual file on that area.

As do we all, I bet every single one of us that has played AO has saved the morphing area (I don't want to ruin it because people may not have played it yet all, you know Sk _ y _ u _l, get it yet, I mean I've practically SPELT it out!)

There is no quicksave in Abe's Oddysee, and which S-r-k--- part? There are several.

I'm thinking he's referring to the boardroom. Which would be akward since the last saveing point before that is just before the gas line is triggerd.

And don't worry about spoilers anymore, Rince. AO is over 10 years old.

I love the Boardroom. I like the boiler part (the final level) in Abe's Exoddus better though, Its way more harder and intense then the boardroom.

To be honest my favourite part of it was the first time you use it, with all those sligs, it looked so cool with explosions etc. Muahahahaha many happy chuckles out of that. (Although theboardroom did look cool, sadly you dont get to see it, what with the speed you have to press the buttons )

Ah ok just if people never played before I thought it might ruin the game, but 10 years you say?....Doesn't seem that long.......Meh!

I know, time sure goes fast doesn't it?

If you want to see the boardroom sometime, it's the last image on this page:
http://vgmaps.com/Atlas/PSX/Oddworld-Abe'sOddysee-RuptureFarms-BoardRoom.png

It isn't a very big image, but still the best you can get.

I think OWI should have made a special Xbox cd with AO and AE on it.It would have cost like 20 or 30 bucks,or they could have ptu it in bundle with Munch or Stranger.

Why bother? It's hardly standard videogame industry practice, and would probably only have been bought by fans, and even then only if it came packaged with something fresh - as Lorne keeps noting, the gaming environment has changed. People don't want platformers any more.

^ That is indeed a very sad and painful truth max. Platformers are replaced with these FPS and RPG's. Sure I like some but it just makes me angry thinking about it .

Strictly speaking, people didn't want platformers when AO came out either.

I don't know about that. Just off the top of my head, 1997 was the release of Tomb Raider 2, which was quite a popular platformer. It's certainly true that 2D platformers weren't in demand.

Cullen, a platformer is any game whose primary gameplay is the navigation of series of platforms and obstacles/enemies.

Because back then he didn't care what the market thought. He did his own thing and was proved right. He went 2d because he thought that the 3d technology wasn't yet good enough to create a world rich enough to fulfill his vision.

He was damn right!Even though they weren't 3D,AO and AE were great!Players just don't appreciate old concepts like they should.Sure, new games are fun,but taking old concepts like 2D platforms and putting some on new consoles would not be bad.2D platforms still has it fans!

Me being a one of them! I love platformers, they are so much easier to control, and it is far cooler to veiw because you can see infront behind above below all at the same time, and it is simple to add puzzles etc. (although the reason I am a fan is probably because I couldn't stop playing them )

I think it would be brilliant if Lorne made another 2D game, just with better graphics and harder challenges on the 360. I would play it all day every day!

^ Meh that would be a waste of money since many people will be turned off seeing it's 2D. On a side note who got the 360?

That could describe AO and AE to a 'T'. It still wouldn't sell, unfortunately.
