Like 'Splosion Man.

Don't take that wrong. I love 'Splosion Man. I love it a great deal more than I do Oddworld.

And yet here you are, on Oddworld Forums, posting in a thread about Oddworld.

I'm intrigued to know, is the expo only in Brighton? I haven't seen a date for London.

Maybe a "retro mode" could be added as a joke bonus, unlockable at the end of the game, like the screenshot above - Except without side-scrolling, including static screens instead. :P But that'd probably be not worth the time it'd take to create since you'd have to change the game mechanics and AI slightly for it to work. Maybe if it was only done over the first level.

Anyway that first preview shot looks very good, considering the game hasn't been in production for very long - I got quite excited when Crashpunk IMed me through Steam to tell me about it. :P I did originally think it looked a bit blander than I felt it ought to have been, but my concerns have been addressed here in the thread already.

WOW LIJI that's great improvement (yes, thats true if you ask me. It feels a little retro and more like sci-fi 80's movie!). Think about it JAW, it's maybe not necessary for 15-bit color, but the little scan effect make this even more atmospheric and dirty

lol, if it was done seriously, it'd negate JAW making Abe HD in the first place. People not familiar with the game wouldn't understand it.

A little smaller (by some %) scan effect could work for final version.

AND

Its my personal little modification of the picture. L i t t l e snow-tv effect for atmosphere, a little more dark and... do you like it?

And the original:

Specifically, I first made it 640x240 and only then I scaled it back up to 640x480 for the full retro feel.

The original indeed has some poor compression. His version doesn't look like that, it's just grainy.

Given that we can see over and behind the barrel in 2.5D, I wonder how the secret area entrances will be implemented? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there one in that area in the original? Sure isn't a hole there!

You are wrong. Hidden area is in the start screen to the left.

Oops By the way, OWI was asked on Facebook if this was the final version, and they clarified it 'isn't even pre-alpha', which is extremely encouraging! Can't wait to see more!

That's definitely getting replaced. Probably not by a metal cylinder, because that stops making sense in a 3D world. It would cut into the wall and barrel behind it.
That puts my mind at ease, and some. Thanks for getting back!

If this is pre-alpha, then I'm ecstatic that the objects are even textured at all.

:
I think this could be incorporated into the game quite well. When Abe enters a new factory area, the filter plus a bit of focus whine could show the player that Glukkon surveillance is keeping up with them. After a few steps, it'd fade.

That sounds a bit cokey, but actually I do like the idea of it being a filter on security camera footage. Perhaps in the segment when Molluck is watching Abe on the boardroom screen.
