God, I need to catch up. I'm only on season 3. I enjoy it and all, but I know how insane it gets later on and I'm so tempted to skip to season 4.
Don't skip Season 4, it's great. Especially "I remember you"

:
There's supposedly a crossover episode on the horizon where Finn and Jake meet Fionna and Cake, but I haven't heard anything about it.
How could characters from a fan-fiction meet the people they're based off of. Fionna and Cake don't exist, they're just Ice King's made up characters. They're in an episode called "Bad Little Boy" next and Marshall Lee talks, the fan girls will go insane. Oh in February there's a comic series coming out about them.

Just watched some Superjail and it's extremely weird. Especially in the first one when the bird rips off the guys penis.

Without even trying, I can come up with numerous convoluted, silly, and fantastical ways that they could pull this off. It's fucking Adventure Time, not an episode of Dexter.

I actually finished Season 4 a few days ago. I didn't really know how to sum up my feelings about it. I mean, it was amazing, but it was whoa.

Dexter sucks. Adventure Time is great. Stop watching Dexter. Watch Adventure Time instead.

For great justice.

Also, I'm watching The Office (UK). Great series. Garreth is the best.

Gareth is also My favourite character, and the Christmas special is hilarious. It's a pity, not many people appreciate the Office nowadays.

So I watched Looper today. In my opinion it wasn't as great as everyone's been saying, it was a decent movie though. I liked the plot and the whole concept of the movie very much.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty underwhelming. Good, but not great. Most of the scenes at the farm were rather boring.

I watched The Grinch last night. The animated one. It's always great.

Has anyone here watched Regular Show before? I've seen a couple episodes and it seems alright. People compare it to Adventure Time last night, so I'm considering watching through it.

Comparing it how? In quality? Because the show itself is nothing like Adventure Time in theme, tone, or characters.

It's not nearly as good as Adventure Time, but it's not terrible. I don't really like it, personally. It's one of those "shows about nothing", which can be great, but it's not really my cup of tea.

I asked about that, and the only response they could come up with was that both have "stoner fanbases".

They just seemed to get lumped together all the time, not sure why.

Probably because Pen Ward, J.G. Quintel, and Thurop Van Orman are part of a creative troupe that work on each other's shows, so they're often spoken of in a collective sense. There are some similarities in their art and writing style, which is probably why the shows share a mutual fanbase.

Otherwise they're all fundamentally different programs that appeal to different sensibilities. Flapjack was more gritty, bizarre, and darker than the other two. Adventure Time is silly, lighthearted, and sort of arbitrary. Regular Show has shades of both, but it's far more "chill" and the humor is more subtle I suppose.

To give you an idea, here's a short film by Pen Ward (Adventure Time) that is pretty representative of his style.

And here's one by J.G. Quintel (Regular Show).

My early Christmas presents to myself arrived today from Amazon.

I got all five seasons of The Wire and The Royal Tenenbaums because I'm very curious about the kind of movie that would make OANST's favourite ever.

Those are some kickass presents. I felt the same way towards Royal Tenenbaums, so I did the same thing as you and now it's one of my favourite movies.

As for The Wire, well apparently it's the greatest show ever, as I'm sure you've heard. I loved the first season, still need to watch the rest.

You must spread some rep around before giving it to Wings of Fire again.

Season 4 of The Wire is the best season of television I have ever seen.

Edit: I guess I've never tried to explain, even to myself, why I love The Royal Tenenbaums so much. It's a very strange movie because it is so much goddamn fun while also being one of the most heart breakingly melancholy movies ever made. It's an extremely sad story, told by a film maker who can find joy, beauty, and humor (not even dark humor) in every situation. There is really only one scene in the movie that actually lets how sad, and confused these people are come to the surface long enough for the viewer to dwell on it, and it is one of the greatest, quietest, saddest scenes ever put to film. The movie is a masterpiece.

Which scene in particular are you talking about?

Is it the razor blade scene? That one always gets me.

Or maybe the one with Ritchie and Margot in the tent.

There are so many damn great scenes in that movie. The opening one is probably my favourite of any movie.

I was thinking more of option 1, but I should have considered the tent scene, too. Or even the Stiller, Wilson chase scene. I guess the first one was just so shocking because up until that point the movie was quirky enough, and Luke Wilson's character held back his depression so much that you don't really see it coming. It hits me like a ton of bricks every time. I think that what really gets me about it is how he is staring into the mirror, says "Tomorrow, I'm going to kill myself," and without missing a beat doesn't wait until tomorrow. Some people would probably view that as an error in the script, or a deleted scene, or any number of things, but it's not not. There are no accidents in a Wes Anderson film.

The fact that filming only finished a week ago might have something to do with it.

I haven't really been following the progress so I didn't know, it's just that IMDb had a release date of early 2013 at one point but obviously they've delayed it then. Seems to be late June next year now.
