Yeah, there's some Yogscasty weirdness going on. A few weeks back some signs appeared in various people's houses, all saying exactly the same thing. From memory, it was something like "[username], please help us. I must remain aloof for now, but I'll give you further instructions in the very near future."
Well last night Crashpunk found another set of signs at his place, and confirmed they were also in Joe's shack. After some investigation, we found they were also at Nile Lair, Castle Pyke, Ontrukkan Keep, Havoc's place, Splat's lair, ench's ice palace, Ridg3's house, and even STM's memorial. They all said the same thing:
:
[username], there is a stalactite cave below the gravel shore to the north.
I have left my story there.
Please help us.
They are your problem too.

So once we were ready, Crashpunk, Darkhoodness, Scraby and myself set off north looking for any gravel shores below which we might find such a cave. We soon found an extensive area of gravel shoreline east of the surface lava pool where DH and dripik built a couple of wooden huts. We found and investigated a nearby explored cave, but there was nothing stalactitic or story-like in there. I used F3 to look for any subterranean, near-surface mobs that would indicate a cave, but although we found an excavated a couple of such places, we couldn't find what we were looking for, so we continued the search eastwards.
What we found was Ridg3's auto-farm, and the nearby mining shaft that was presumably his. He had a good look around, but couldn't find anything that fitted the bill, so we decided to carry on. However, Crashpunk got stuck at the very bottom of the shaft, where waterfalls and lavaflows had trapped him. He died in the lava, so Scraby went down to save any loot that he'd dropped. Whereupon, Scraby also died in the lava, so DarkHoodness and I descended to save anything that remained.
Once at the bottom, DH thought he could see Scraby's items, but for some reason mined through a stone that was keeping the lavaflow in place, and lost most of his expensive goodies to it. I rescues some bits and bobs and place them in a chest, but I was now terrified that I would be the next person to fall victim to Ridg3's awful cave. We decided that Ridg3 was a fuckface for luring us here with these signs. I swam up the waterfall, and died of drowning even though my client said my lungs were full of air. I thought Notch fixed this bug!
I respawned at base in the middle of the night and ran back to Ridg3's, losing almost all my health to a ridiculous amount of mobs that had spawned. Diving back down, I was delighted to find that ALL of my possessions had miraculously survived. I then found myself trapped at the bottom of the shaft again, with no weapons in my quickbar, and two creepers closing in on me. Luckily I fumbled the crossbow into my hands just in time to avoid dying a second time. I was subsequently attacked by skeletons during my ascent, but managed to make it to the surface with minimal health. I stored my goodies in Ridg3's chest, paranoid that something would spawn above my bed in the night, then left, forgetting to collect them again.
Meanwhile, in trying to find back Ridg3's mine to collect his loot I'd stored in a chest because I didn't have enough inventory space to carry it all, DH managed to find AmazingManco's new lair, located to the distant north. Intrigued, I followed his directions there to explore this gargantuan construction, and realized that it was built around a gravel shore! Maybe it was Manco who placed the signs, not Ridg3, or maybe dripik since he's the only other player who'd been to Manco's new place.
Anyway, by this time Crashpunk had logged out and Splat had logged in and found the signs in his lair. He, DH and I regrouped at Manco's lair to explore this new gravel shore. There were a couple of surface caves, but no speleothems or stories in either. Using F3, I found a large collection of mobs and dug to reveal an extensive, unexplored cave system, filled with more mobs than I'd ever seen in one place. Splat and I tried to explore, but I completely ran out of both sword and arrows, and Splat set me align with his flint and steel, killing me.
Once again spawned at the main base, I returned to Manco's to collect my drops Splat had saved for me in a chest, then returned to Ridg3's to collect the shit I'd left there. I then decided to return to base to recover after these adventures. My direct route back took me close to Ontrukkan Keep, and the thing about Ontrukkan Keep is that it's a stone's throw from a gravel shore to the east. This makes it to the
south of most people's bases, rather than the stated north. The only occupied home to the south is Hulaabeo's, and even then that's more to the west. Nonetheless curious and conveniently close, I took a look and, sure enough, found a single sign saying "Cave lies below here."
FFS!
DH, Splat and I stowed our expensives away before regrouping on the gravel shore. We dug where told and sure enough found an unlit cave filled with sandstone stalactites. All around the edge of the cave were signs telling a story. I copied them down before I logged out, in anticipation of telling this story here. They read as follows:
:
They came from
nowhere and
studied us from
the shadows.
They learnt our
every strength
and weakness
before...
The attack came
at night.
We had no idea.
And no defense.
Our town was
wiped from the
earth.
We fled, but
they hunted us
down and
slaughtered us.
I think I'm the
only survivor.
They know I'm
here.
It's only a
matter of time
before they get
me too.
As I ran, I
found your
settlement.
I hid in your
shadows and
watched you.
Just as they
had watched us.
And I realized
they had found
you as they
had found us.
Were watching
you as they had
watched us.
And I knew that
soon they would
attack you too,
destroy you all
Crumble your
creations,
shatter your
community...
There is a way
to destroy them
for good, but
I need help.
Fill this chest
with timber,
and I will tell
you how.
