christian heratage week

More than 40 states passed this, it's a week (oct 13-19) where americans are supposed to celibrate that our predicesors are christian. I'm even more upset that Jesse Ventura passed it on accident (that part's still not understood) and they won't let it be taken back. There are a lot of bad things about Ventura but he does believe in separation of church and state.

Yes, weren't the founding Fathers Deists?
I hate this myth that the founders of America were fire breathing protestants running from King George. It just isn't so.
King George only taxed you 1 percent and ran a pretty tight ship. Hell, if he would have just let the people keep their blunderbusses a lot of lives and money could have been saved.
Their is no seperation of church and state. Their can be no state religion. On legal grounds this new week cannot be disputed. On historical grounds it is highly dubious and incorrect. Face it, "we the people" get enough misiformation from shitty schools, passing a totally bogus holiday isn't going to help.

I could be just being paranoid...but it sounds to me the current government body is trying to estabish a national religion in a 'round about' way. I hope I am wrong...for that would be unconstantusional(sp).

They've done unconstitutional things before, they'll do it again.

Currency: "In God we trust."
Bush: "I don't know that atheists should be considered citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."

Well, the government is not trying to institute a quasi Judeo-Christian religion. The currency thing has been on the nickles and dimes for as long as I can remember. But really, aren't there more important things to worry about? If the words were gone tomorrow I couldn't care less. The idea of the christian religion week is pretty preposterous as none of the "founding fathers" were "hard core christians" They were Deists. They thought God made the world and took a big step back. No Christ, or salvation. The divine providence always got me wondering, "How the hell can a deist believe in divine providence?
