Oddworld has really sold out (ninentdo)

Oddworld has failed its gamers time and time again. i am incredibly distraught that they have again lied to the consumers about their product. not that they were wanting to lie, but that they have not once stuck to their guns. i love the games but there is an awful lot they merely change to suit their liking and its a load of crap. here is a small list of grievences.

Abe lost a finger in the make of exodus so they could save their market in japan.

waiting a year or so for the the playstation 2 trailer for oddworld munchs oddessy (which i was gonna buy only for MO) and the extra 2 years I had to wait for the launch of a then unheard of game system. sadly i beat it in 3 days after the xbox launch. (which had not a single hidden MUD, the one on splinterz was a given!)

the loading bay level where the 2 obvious muds WONT EVER work. so you have to swap abe and munch and have your 2 non simlutaneous characters pull levers simultaneously.

Alf -the most useless pain in the ass ever. he does nothing but mock the real questions people have about dishonest marketing policies. and he wastes time with questions like "what does elum poop smell like"

abes invisiblity power was cooler when he got it from another mud. where did they learn to make invisibrew?

class specific vendos (what suddenly buttons know who you are when you push them?)

The horrible site updates that happen maybe once a month

spooce- they took abes balls off. what, so now he has less powers that look cooler? i dont get it.

no shrykull ( i dont realy care about that but its a continuity thing)

vendos are too critical for gameplay in MO (they should have had those things hidden, but they didnt really hide the muds so i guess maybe some were....)


more will come very soon (i gotta go eat). please everyone say what you think good or bad. i need some other support. i feel betrayed. im gonna stick the quintology out, no question. i have just really really lost faith in the game makers.

I'm actually alright with the GBA having MO. Sure, they said that it was Xbox exclusive, but maybe the GBA could be quite different.

Well Souled Out its good to be honest and im glad that you shared what you really think. Personally i dont have any problems with the OWI i believe that they are doing a great job and you just got caught in the smuck of it. Just call me the *Honest Mud. Dont get me wrong though i also believe that a member is intitled to expressing there feelings (I say that because im the honest MUD) However you dont hate Oddworld do you. I mean you dont really hate it right.

1. Would you prefer they (or their publisher) spend thousands on paying-off the Japanese authoroties?
2. Buy the PAL version if you're THAT bothered about it. There are already Xbox mod chips available.

Well I guess we should just hope for all that stuff to come back in ME. I am hopeing, and because OWI has not said much on the next installment could mean that they could have something really interesting in the works. And if thats the case then they probabally want to keep everything secret from us. Infact at Oddworld.com I read an interview that said they were in "top secret mode." So I could be right with the secret thing. Don't loose faith on OWI just because of how MO turned out. Look towards the future lad. Thats what I say.

Souled Out, dissing oddworld and the OWI crew has gotten SO old. If you have nothing better to do than to piss on these people and their games I suggest you leave. Yes OWI has let some people down, not kept promises, etcetera, etcetera, blah, blah, blah. It's old. Real old. These forums are not the Oddworld HATE Forums. Give the great OWI a break. How many other video game companies do you know that even have a frequently updated website? How many other game companies have a "fan club" of sorts. I can assure you NOT MANY. IF YOU CANNOT APPRECIATE OWI AND THEIR GAMES, LEAVE THESE FORUMS AND ALLOW THE REST OF US TO ENJOY WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT THE ODDWORLD GAMES!

P.S. And don't diss Alf. Alf spends a lot of time working for the fans of Oddworld. He has his work cut out for him since there are so many "fans" like you who always focus on the negative.

Im with Khanzumer on this, now its one thing being mad at OWI (which I understand but they do work there hearts out just to make great game for us!), but its another thing when you diss Alf. The questions you see on the OWI web site are not the only questions he answers, personally I have asked him alot of reasonable questions and he answers all of them. He just dosn't have enough space to post ALL of them on the web site. Another thing is, Alf works his butt off just to make us happy and at the same time works for OWI! He even got together a fan club with a map of Oddworld and other goodies just for us! I don't know what your problem with the site is either? Its very, very hard work to put up a site half that good, so give the guy alittle break?

You see Souled Out these forums were desined for fans like us to look at the beautiful side of Oddworld like the Khanzumer said sure they may have made a few slip ups but they work really hard to please us and we shouldnt be to picky or greedy about it. I mean face the facts ODDWORLD RULES.

SOBE bugged me because incorporating a real marketing concept into a world that's supposed to be believable destroys any attempt at credibility and immersion. It's different when you use parody or metaphor - at least in those cases you can illustrate a point by making a connection between the unknown (in Oddworld) and the known in real life. And if they're done well, parodies are subtle enough to work on several levels so you aren't clubbed with their meaning over and over again.

2. Lorne said he saw games as a new storytelling medium - but he hasn't actually shown us any unique GAMEPLAY storytelling method besides the old sequence+cutscene+sequence technique. If they're taking that approach, you might as well release a film (please). And there's really little connection between the uber-athlete Abe in gameplay and the cutscenes.

I just thought I'd put my two cents in. I agree that OWI is a very inconsistent company (their games ), but you have to see that OWI like any company is growing, and the more a company grows the more people will be employed and these employees have their own Ideas, and their own look on these games which may be different then the original crew that worked on earlier games. Look at how the FMV designers made native muds, now look how the in game artists interpreted how they looked, totally different, different people think different stuff works, these games aren’t being made by one person so there is going to be disagreement. Now look at the time slot these many people with different ideas had to make a game, there wasn't too much time for arguing. There was a lot of quick decision-making and many of MO's game aspects were cut or over looked. And if not everyone who made the first two games are here for the third stuff can change very easily with no one backing up their idea. at least this is how I look at it. But who the hell came up with the idea of those annoying cartoon sounds through out MO if you want to complain complain about that!

first off i dont hate oddworld. I AM very much, however ,criticising it. I think that its fine to discuss what doesnt work about the game without people getting mad. i love the games, which is why i am saying anything at all. I would like to see if any of the conflicting issues (as in "XBOX EXCLUSIVE" -- and then selling the rights to gameboy advance...) can be addressed. what better way to get something addressed then to find other people with the same problem and see about evoking change.

i know that there is a fancore around these games that will defend them to the bitter end. im not attacking the games or the makers. i am however saying i would like to see more reliability on the part of OWI. i know that its a tough thing to keep up with the needs of the fans, so im not asking them to start "taking an idea list". i think they should spend their time making more good games and dealing less with problems BUT, I do feel that i should be able to recieve accurate information (specifically from the source!) .

there is nothing wrong with a valid compaint. if you feel that compaints ruin the threads im sorry about that. no one is making you read these threads, and complaing about the complaints is an interesting way to go.
