We need to trace our roots

As I was sitting on my rooftop enjoying the stars, I began to realize some important things. Humans are just going to keep inventing and inventing more things that "enhance" daily life. Remember when there were no cell phones? Now it seems like everybody has one...or two. And most city dwellers and business types alike find it hard to imagine life without them. If we look back into history we can see all sorts of things doing the same as the cell phone did...basically, once some new thing comes along people use it like its a necessity, like its always been around. I think this will just lead humans to destruction. If we keep going forward with this type of advancement we will be too dependant on those material things to know how to really survive....and thats what's important. We need to trace back to our ancestors and learn from them- how they survived, how they lived...In a nutshell I'm saying we should not depend so much on these material things that make up our life.

**Like computers maybe!!!And video games!!**

BINGO! *claps* I agree completely! We have gone too far from our ancestorial roots...so far we are losing a lot of that ancient knownledge that can never be replaced (ancient cultures, languages, etc). We are far too dependent on material things at our necessary for life , like TV (stopped watching that a long time ago...). We could do away with cars too IMO...too many peeps drive to go to the store that is just a block away...lazy bums...

Bad thing to prove your theory on. *grins* Considering a lot of people who use cellphones don't know how to and tend to be just rude with it. People who use a cellphone respectfully and with wit are those you should be looking at.

I really don't think the past was any better, though. It may not have been worse (assuming you to be right), but I doubt it was ever better. So I don't see why you're that bothered.

I know I'm not. Especially me, I guess. I get excited thinking about human inventions (from the geometric square to the personal computer), because someone had the creativity to think it up, and it's fun to try and figure out how they did it, even if I personally don't own such a thing (though taking apart things helps).

*grin*

I'm very, very happy with there being too much in life to explore. It makes life a mystery.

>> We could do away with cars too IMO...too many peeps drive to go to the store that is just a block away...lazy bums... <<

Note: I don't think the problems of that is the cars, but the minds of people. *pointing to the bit about cellphones she typed* Yet it makes reaching relatives living further than "just a block away" a lot easier.

Also. Bidda, please tell me what you mean with 'dependant'? I know I'd miss my computer and TV if I didn't have them anymore, but since I've had to do without ANY internet at all for weeks and didn't really feel like it was killing as long as I had something else to do I wouldn't say I'm dependant on it.

Also, it's a great invention in my eyes. Without the internet, I wouldn't have met a fellow kavkem (donn ask), and could not stay in contact with her. Of course, I wouldn't know what I'm missing, either. *laughs*

But why deny the good things? Sure, for shoes you lose the direct contact of your soles to the ground, but why is former worse?

I don't get it, sorry. *smile* I see more of a problem in idiocy and/or excessive (read unhealthy) laziness.

By the way: I think we have to trace our roots, too, but only on an emotional level. Too many emotions are just blocked by us today - hatred, greed, envy, fear, sadness ... we get embarrassed about them or are told they're creations of Satan and evil, and sin (and blabla). Erfurt is a great example of what happens if you have a lot of hatred/fear in you without the guts/ability to vent it out.

For those who don't know about Erfurt: Kid took a gun and shot 16 people, then himself, because he failed school. They wanna ban graphic video games because of that now. *geh*

1. That's the job of historians. They seem to get on okay without my inexpert assistance.

2. So you want all humans to forrage for food and reproduce, like the good old days?

3. Those two things make up most of my social and recrative life and since I'm planning on being a games programmer, those two are pretty important to me. What do you have against computers and video games?

You seem to be telling us to not use reliable technology that improves lives. Why?
I am completely for labour-saving devices as long as their benefits outweigh their costs.

It seems that I have been taking your advice without meaning to: I have just spent a week without going on the internet once, and only watching half an hour of TV in the whole week. I have to say that it felt so good... [I didn't actually make the decision to do this, it just kind of happened...]

The basic message here appears to be a general "Get a Life!" to the world... The internet is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there...

I have a life.

*frantic looks around* I really, REALLY do, I swear.

Actually, I do. I'm not awfully social, but I have a life. I read books, I discuss philosophy with my mom, I just Do Stuff (tm).

Now, back to 3d paintball. *forgetting the whole thing again*

Thats very well put ya' little thinkers. Does that also extend to repeatidly bashing a piece of wood with a crowbar, or beating a binder with a large stick thing? Your right though, those emotions seem to be made into "pansy" or "weak" people. But that builds in a longing you can't share to people, which leads somewhat to depression in my opinion. Darn society today.

Things such as telephones are very much needed and computers are very useful...People are not dependant on things(usually) such as video games, they use them to cancel out the work of every-day life....New ways of leisure or doing things are good as stress rises in daily living..
The people before us did not have these sorts of things, therefore they could not miss them and knew nothing of their presence, so they could not use them. But if they did have them they would have used them......Do you have to live simply to be a good survivor?..........Some of the people ago lived a horrible life, died very young, and were exposed to very unsanitary conditions.........New inventions can be very benefitial also............
