My Impressions of Munch's Oddysee....

Hmmm, First I must say I am a Hardcore Fan of Oddworld! My only reason for buying an XBox was to play the next Oddworld games...Now after having played Munch..what do I think...this is only my opinion..But I feel a bit cheated as 1 of millions of fans of Oddworld...the game does not remind me of Oddworld...the levels look like game levels and not natural enviornments(Anybody who's played ICO or Jax & Daxter on PS2 knows it can be done). I don't get that Mystical feeling of being in Oddworld when I play the game...Come on, we all know that the spooce shrubs should go away, I do not like collecting these things...and there everywhere(even in buildings???) Don't let nobody fool you if you haven't played the game, you have to get spooce! to progress anywhere!!! Beside those 2 complaints I do enjoy the characters, and cool voices of Oddworld. I'm going to finish the game seeing how i spent 0ver 300 dollars to play it. But what happened to the season changing, the cool graphics i see in the videos on Oddworld.com...what happen to being in control of the enviornment..I can only hope the next games, will be more realistic and a true reflection of what Oddworld looks like in 3D. If they keep on this track they'll alienate the millions of fans who enjoy traveling to oddworld every now and then....man my passport to Oddworld took me to the wrong place...

Hey the CG is excellent though!!! Part I my reason to keep playing Great JOB!!!

Evrybody know... Oddworld is now a Teen Game, not harcoregamers...

It's not the dark oddworld anymore but a cartoon...

You have not gone in far enough. The part you talk of is a perfect example of the demo's that were out. The beginnings of the game are more of a tutorial section. I also would not care for the game if all were like the first section. But the game is much more than what the beginning shows. Go a little deeper, and you will find the real mystical Oddworld we all fell in love with. The teen or arcade feel of the beginning portions of the game dissapear ( Thankfully) into the real Game of Oddworld. The game has stuck to the roots but just with tons more of Eye candy and in 3D.

Play a bit longer, get beyond the "getting used to controls and learning area's" and you shall see the game we all hoped for, trust me, I have and am loving it.

All can breathe again, Munch is what we all hoped for and more. I am now in a area that is "VINTAGE" Oddworld. You shall see for yourselves soon enough. Very interesting puzzles already with all the eye candy one could ever want. I am milking the game for all it's worth, play a little at a time, and then get to other games so I can enjoy Oddworld for quite some time. I want it to last, it "IS" that good.

Brewmaster just give it time. Go further and there is nooooooooo way you can say this game has not stuck to it's roots. If you still believe so then that is your opinion, but one I cannot believe in or agrre with at all.

It's your first post here, and you come up with that! And you call yourself a hardcore Oddworld gamer, something sounds fishy. Maybe one that already has problems with the game and XBOX that wants to start some crap, if you ask me. If you were someone that has been here and has some credentials I would honor your opinion, that's the way you feel,so be it, your have your rights, but something is a miss here. I know a denial of this will come, but still that makes this none the less fishy.

What's wrong with it!?
How can you say that you feel cheated?
I am playing it and I see nothing wrong. In fact, I think it is wonderful and far better than the previous 2. It is still dark(in storyline)...so they added some cartoonish humor...It makes it all the more fun.

As I said in my post its just my opinion(steel shark), i am still enjoying the game...but if you remember, look at the back of the case of "Oddworld: Abe Oddysee" you'll be reminded of these things that make Oddworld different.....
variations from the platform norm include the absence of scoring (the goal is just to stay alive and save your friends, not rack up points), life meters (you'll know when you've expired), "no coin collecting"(?spooce?), or extra lives (after death you simply start back at the beginning of the section you were in).

....???So where does Spooce come from???...

hey, I'm about 4 hours into the game, i know thats not a lot, but i've been collecting spooce ever since...this is my only game for Xbox so you can't say I am not a fan of oddworld...its my sole purpose for buying the xbox,(as it was for my buying a PS2)...

Well I hope it gets better for you. I think it has witheld it's tradition and roots. It really is like the first 2 to me, just with nicer everthing, along with 3D play.

i agree with you both. the game has, in fact, truned into a bit of "run around and collect stuff" type deal. i can certainly see how this could turn some people off. so i think this does move from the roots of oddworld gameplay that AO and AE laid down, but i also think that to advance oddworld to the next level of gameplay this is a bit of a nessecary feature. as for the spooce not disapperaring, it plainly states that after you pick the spooce, then just the "spooce-buds" are left. but all in all, the game DEFINATELY keeps the feeling of being on oddworld alive. i have had a few friends over to play the x-box and every time i show off munch i've gotten a response similar to,"how odd." i think the irony there speaks for itself. so is the game different than the last two? hell yeah it's different because it's in 3-D. if it were all run and jump shit, it'd be like playing crash bandicoot on oddworld. i'm enjoying the game so much right now that i'm about 9 hours behind on sleep. it's so good i just can't put it down. the last time a game did this to me was when AE came out.guess that's all i have to say except, sell your kideys if you have to, just get the damn game!
