I went back to look for them. I lied. I need to know where these are. I must know. As soon as I saw that they were mines I remembered this little spot, when I zoom in this mine appears to have a little purple splotch so I'm guessing this is either Bomas or Carmine.

E: Matt confirmed this is one of them on Twitter. Since I found the mine and Matt can't remember which is which I get to pick. The pink one is Carmine Bomas Carmine.
EE: Also OWI posted my previous two screenshots on their Twitter, the hunt for Bomas begins!

I don't understand the point of this easter egg... In-joke or something?

I don't remember dying as the Shrykull if the gas was activated in the original, seems that now you actually have to kill everyone and shut the sprout gas off or you'll die from it.
You don't even *need* to become Shyrkull in AO at the end

You don't? I thought you had to shut the gas off and kill the glukkons/sligs to avoid being shot.

In the original AO you can just pull the lever quickly enough and even if the sligs kill you the ending still plays.

And I think it's just supposed to be a fun little easter egg, nothing more than two mines mineding their own business.

Also I can't for the life of me find Bomas in Paramonia, I've been through three times since I found Carmine and nothing.

Sorry for double post but I also found Bomas, guess that wraps up this mystery.

I guess I just never pass up a chance to use the Shrykull and blow things to smithereens.

I didn't even have Shrykull. I just pulled the gallows-like switch first, before saving the mud.

Carmine is visible through the little hole in the cave, they're both easier to see if you right-click to view the image then zoom in due to the formatting.

Thanks! It was a weird little thing I noticed whilst I was searching for actual "characters" so as soon as I heard they were floating mines I knew where to go for Scrabania.

What would have been a good easter egg?

You did a good job finding it. For example, in Alf's Escape, the albino Slig is a nice easter egg. You know, something meaningful.

To be honest when I was first looking for a "mechanical variant character" I was hoping for a busted up Greeter or a Vykker Dropship somewhere

Thanks! After I'd already spent so much time not looking for floating mines, actually looking for floating mines was considerably easier!

It's actually not a bad wee easter egg tbh. Overhyped to the hills, sure, but a little neat.
