Oddworld MMO Game

You know those surivial MMO games like RUST/DAY Z etc etc..

Well what if there was an Oddworld experience where you play a native mudokon and you build communities and fish, grow crops, fight rival tribes?

Could be set in some remote part of Oddworld where Mudkons isolated and safe for the most part, try to survive against the local wild life and their petty disputes!

I always thought that Oddworld is such a story driven IP that something like an MMO or sandbox could never work within the series. To me, Oddworld is a story told through games, not vice versa.

The only way I see an oddworld game as an mmo, is if it were displayed as a huge huge tech demo where you select your species and travel a massive continent of oddworld. Essentially a survival game, no story, just exploration of lush/baron landscapes, other inhabitants, flora and fauna. Factories inaccessible. As I said, tech demo/survival game.

But this is me thinking with a VR head set on. After seeing a demo of a photo realistic Vive presentation, it sold me. I'd love to lay on my bed looking into a VR space sim.

Also, MMOs just remind me of grinding and I personally just drop games the moment I feel the grind. Repetition just hurts my brain :/

I disagree, Oddworld could be an excellent place for an exploration / survival game. Just imagine exploring Mudos' vast landscapes and coming across its unique fauna. You will have no idea on how they will behave because they are unlike anything you've seen on earth before.

This could have potential.

An MMO would obviously have to be set in a distinct time period from the main games to work, but if it focused on the world building and exploration it would be nice. I’m thinking like a No Man’s Sky approach rather than a WoW approach.

It would have to be HUGE with heaps of other creatures and dangers, ideally with many we have not encountered in any games yet - which would cost tonnes. Like to do well would probably be in the 10's of millions.

I'd believe it to be possible in maybe 7 to 15 years.

I don't know about world building aspects. I think I'd prefer something along the lines of WoW - with story but not as many players, and with some abilities but still pretty basic. So maybe a mix. Build in the world but not altering it vastly... although it would be fun to build a giant corporation and basically be a Glukkon.

We already have an Oddworld: MO game. Do we really want the same game, but "Massive"?

Whilst I love the idea of exploring Oddworld because the world is interesting. I don't think dumping you in the world in a survival scenario is the right approach. Oddworld is a story driven game and needs a focus point.

I was thinking more like Skyrim or Fallout. Have a massive open world to explore with familiar locations from the other games. And have many stories along the way. You could possibly even play as different factions like Mudokon Tribes or The Industrials.

The only problem is Oddworld has a lot to be established yet. We've only really scratched the surface of the world really.

Yeah, it does have the potential, and while I don't think it is ready for such a type of game, I think survival could be less a focus of the game and more as a part of it, for example, going through areas where there's alot of dangerous wildlife, etc, but making it all survival would go against the idea of a good storytelling, unless done very carefully.

I'm not seeing it myself. I feel like it would turn out to just be a generic survival game that happens to be set on Oddworld. I mean, I'm sure we're interested in the world and all, but is that really enough?

Most of the gameplay that y'all are describing is straight outa Hand of Odd. I'd prefer to play that offline than MMO, thanks.
