Honestly, given what we got from NNT, I would have expected them to transfer the tone over to Soulstorm since in that Holy Sock Law thread, I had said "Yes, all signs point to NNT being what Lorne wanted AO to be in the first place". I still expect this, since the tone was basically the same as AE's, and would be fitting of an AE remake. However, if this announcement is to be interpretted literally, Soulstorm is going to be more reminiscent of AO, and that's something I wouldn't object to, but would be weirded out by because it's not what I would have expected to happen.

This is something we won't know until they start revealing more about the project, though.

It kind of makes sense since Soulstorm is set directly after AO with Abe and his crew wandering the desert. I could totally see the satirically ironic ending being Abe and his crew ending up in another factory drinking Soulstorm.

Nothing about the OP indicates this. The beginning of AE was literally the end of AO. It seriously went "Hey look, Abe saved the mudokons and liberated them from RF", "Oops the dunderfuck hit his head again", *prophetic vision of spookies telling him something's amiss*, "Hey guys lets walk for a million years in the desert to fix the problem". Cue AE

The OP implies that the story of AE is going to begin and be told in a drastically different way, and that instead of just a handful of friends coming along it's the entirety of former RF employees. Which is crazy. Sounds like it's going to be the same general story at heart, though.

Instead of Bigface taking Abe with him to wherever-the-fuck, where all the other (2)99 mudokons ended up to celebrate, he just tossed him into bumfuck-nowhere and in reality all those bird portals Abe "rescued" Muds through actually just lead to the same bumfuck place?

...Or maybe they did go through the original AO ending all fine and dandy, and then heard about some Mudokon utopia or something they set off to find

I wouldn't see why they'd recon the entire game, I'm sure the most vital stuff like everything that happened in Feeco and the vault challenges will still occur. These two paragraphs though:
