Vynil sounds better.
Well, to be more accurate, Vynil sounds different.
You think there's more to it than that, but there really isn't. I collected some old Frank Zappa records until my dog chewed threw the turntable cable, it was the easiest way to find those particular records and the big sleeves look neat. Records allow you to make a presentation of putting on music, any dipshit can load a CD changer (or fail to) and everyone has their tiresome EDM running mix they like to put into any available Dock. Vynil is communal, something about slipping a big slab of music under a precise instrument and setting the proper speed is more engaging than strangling yourself in the extruded guts of a cassette tape.
We're able to manufacture vynil more effectively and cheaply these days, too. It's pretty simple to find a crappy old turntable and get it fixed for less than the original purchase price. I think you're selling these products short by lumping them in as 'hipster shit', and there's a lot of crazy, quality Vynil out there whereas the majority of old Cassettes and CD's consist of Buttrock and Indian Pop-Rap. And precisely 80% of all obsolescent musical technology is automatically consumed by 'Kiss from a Rose' by Seal.
Anyway, I would buy this Oddworld Vynil thingie. I really love the ambience of the Abe games' scoring, the only thing I hope for is some clean remixes, not some DJ crap.
