I really don't see the need to remake MO. They already spent time/money on the HD port of MO not too long ago, it'd be weird for them to invalidate that with a full remake so soon. If anything just put MO HD on Vita and PS4 so everyone who has New n Tasty can see that chapter of the story.

Yeah, MO isn't very good, but it took so many years to make New n Tasty. It's already been four years since JAW announced their Oddworld projects, I don't want to spend another several years waiting for a remake of MO, especially if they're going to be spending their time on a remake of AE.

I'd like to get an actual NEW game continuing the story sooner than 8 years from now, please. Remake AE is we must (New n Tasty is quite grand), but after that... something new.

AO and AE aren't good games because they're 2D. They're good games because they have strong visual design, interesting stories and mechanics that rely on a series of character interactions. Most of the puzzles involved learning how each of the creatures behaved, and abusing that. It was a really great system.

It's also a system that could be really well done in 3D, but it would get exponentially more complex. From what I read about MO I always imagined a game that was much more open ended. You enter a factory, and then you have to find a way to save muds and bring it down. Maybe damaging a conveyor belt with a grenade would mean that muds need to be assigned to fix it, and maybe it would be easier to save them from there than where they were before. You could have a central "factory brain" that assigned groups of sligs and muds jobs based on what's happening. It would be complex, but also governed by simple rules.

It's a pretty big job doing Oddworld right in 3D. It couldn't be any old 3D platfomer, just like AO and AE aren't some 2D platformer. The perspective isn't important.

A new attempt at a Munch game would only really make sense if they started from scratch, and used the original idea as a template, rather than the finished product. I'd be all for that, personally, as I think there's plenty of potential there.

Munch could work as a 2D game with open world level designs, I think. Not as linear as AO or AE though. I'm thinking more of a Metroidvania-esque layout, only rather than one huge hub world a bunch of smaller ones, one smaller world after another. Would be pretty hard to pull off but preferable to the original MO if done right.

I dunno if Lorne would want to admit defeat by completely rebuilding the game from the ground up though.

I don't wish for a MO remake to be honest, Munch happened. I'd much rather see us move on to new parts of the quintology.
You could say the same thing about AO, and that's been remade.

I'd also much more have preferred a new game over N'n'T by a lot. I didn't wish for an AO remake either, but I'm going to get it because it still seems like it's gonna be fun.

MO I strongly believe needed a full remake from the ground up.

AO, not even remotely.

From what I've seen so far of NNT, I've actually had to step back and remind myself that AO still exists and I can still love it for what it is because there was no reason it should have been remade the way it was unless it was specifically fixing a few glaring issues with the original gameplay wise, and keeping true to the rest of the game.

They didn't keep true to the original. It tells the same story, yes, but everything else

Right off the bat

Just like I was endlessly worrying about when they showed the redesign of Rupture Farms

The tone and general feel of the game and story were entirely different.

I know this isn't the same game and all but... I'm disappointed. I can't even rant about it because I can't be bothered backing up my opinions right now.

I want to say at least the characters seem a little more lively, but the more I think about it the more I realized that's just because they've become so over exaggerated and cartoony. They're not even the same characters AO portrayed. well except green suit glukkon. he was pretty spot on from what ive seen fuck yeah

If MO could be remade in one year (lolno) I would be happy for them to go ahead with it. However, with how long that would take and however long it takes them to make AE HD we'd be waiting a very long time for some original games. I think any remake beyond the first two games is unnecessary, despite how poor MO is in comparison to the originals.

I have to wonder how much of the desire for a 2.5D Munch come from our fonder memories of Abe and confusing good game design with format. Listening to the fans is great, up until they start holding you back from growing into new things.

I can't see Munch as anything but a 3D game, so it would be kind of strange seeing it in 2D or 2.5D.

I wouldn't expect any story aspects to change, but seeing better designed levels, puzzles, environments, and more solid mechanics would be nice.

I personally think that AO does not need a remake as I loved it for what it was and MO definately needs some improving. At the same time I want to see a brand new game with brand new characters and brand new species

I see a lot of valid and interesting points over here. Now that I think of it, it would probably be best not to touch MO anymore, it had its makeover in HD and people can play it today quite easily.

I want something new from Oddworld as well, and while I love the idea of Fangus Klot, I'd really like to see the continuation of the quintology. The first stepping stone has been put in place for that with the release of NnT. And it looks like we will get an AE reimagining as well.

So where do we go after AE? Assuming we want to see the full quintology.
As I don't like the idea of making MO as it is now non canon we are left with some choices

- Redo MO, including the story of the current MO and perhaps adding stuff?
- Tell people to play MO HD in order to have the back story and work on ME, squeezing into ME all that MO was supposed to be.
- Go straight to Squeek and ignore the Munch chapter for now.
- Something else

The storyline of Munch was great. It was Dark. It's just a shame that the way they presented it gave it it's massive downfall. I would obviously like to see Exoddus made first. If Alf's Escape is AO's side story, it would be cool to have sligstorm as AE's sidestory, as the sligs are the most evolved characters. Plus you already have the control scheme for them crawling etc and the home place of all sligs in the barracks in the same game.

Well the Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot will be next.

I mean I don't really get the cartoony argument. I mean maybe from those who've never played another Oddworld game but otherwise? The characters are just fleshed out and comical and this was very heavily established in AE. I mean look at all the cutscenes in that game and all the characters in NnT match up pretty much perfectly. AO touched on some personality but really the characterisation was almost non existent in that game.

Also I don't really get the argument that AO didn't have to be remade. From a story and gameplay standpoint, sure, the original was great but surely this was the best way to revive the brand with what little money they had?

Yeah I know that, I was just talking about which Quintology game they should do next if they ever want to go back to the Quintology.

What they could also do is go and make ME with their core team, then once they are familiar with the engine etc they could have a sub team adapting MO in the new ME engine.

I think they should leave MO since they HDfied the bugger only two years ago and will be releasing it on Vita & Steam after NnT.

But perhaps they could make a shorter Munch's Exoddus - kind of like Ratchet & Clank's Quest for Booty - to try and figure out how to make Munch & Abe work and control well in 3D envrionments. Tell the rest of the story they intended to tell in MO and then dive into Squeek when they have the budget for it.

This remake looks great, not sure why people are complaining!

Also I hate cartoony graphics with a passion.... It is a shame so many things tend to take that route. Is it easier to design graphics using cartoonish? I don't know why it is ever done.

Cartoonish graphics might be the wrong way of saying it but I think you get what I eman:P
