I'm starting a project on Kickstarter, something that I think each and every one of you would appreciate, whether or not it will involve you. I am actively seeking some good hands to help me create a video for this Fundraiser, bring ideas and innovation to the table, and help create as wonderful of a project as we can possibly make it. I seek assistance with creating a video, as I am currently not in the possession of a webcam, nor a microphone.
Time is of the essence, and it's not necessarily something that I have a lot of at the moment, but for all of us, and potentially all the happiness it could bring to a lot of people, I'll try as long and as hard as I can.

Firstly; if you want to start a project with other people's money, you should be going to every length to justify it. If you're not prepared to spend thirty bucks on a webcam and mic, it's not a great sign of your commitment.

Secondly; You might get more volunteers for your project if you actually told us what it is.

Thirdly; If you don't have enough faith in your project to explain it to people... well, see point one.

If you can then I'm moving it to Fan Corner because anything you need a Kickstarter to accomplish is essentially a fan project and then you're Splat's problem and he can figure out how to deal with you.

As it is, this is basically advertising with money involved. That's against forum rules and at the very least you should have asked permission from one of the admins before doing this.

Alright, so, as you and everyone else here knows, New 'N Tasty is dropping in just under 11 days now.
That part is pretty much down all over the internet, there are people who know it, who have the date saved, and who would be willing to do anything to skip that wait.
But conversely, while it is a happy time to be an Oddworld Fan, not all of us have the means to be able to enjoy this fantastic return to what I highly suspect got a lot of us into gaming in the first place.
What I'm basically proposing is a Kickstarter Fundraising Campaign to raise $10,000 to $15,000 so that those of us in this community, who love Oddworld and everything to do with it, can have a means to be able to play it. This money would be used to purchase either a Playstation 4 + A copy of New 'N Tasty, Vita + a copy, Playstation 3 + a copy, or a Steam copy of New 'N Tasty to whoever cannot afford one due to circumstances in their life.
I believe it would breathe life into a forum that honestly not a whole hell of a lot of people visit on a daily basis, possibly get the word out even more about New 'N Tasty, and it would be a hell of a blessing on those who cannot afford the luxury of a console or a PC to play it on.

Okay so ignoring how absurdly impractical this is (Though the sentiment is nice), that kind of skirts a few rules and I'm unsure there's even a place for it on this forum.

My gut instinct is to just say 'No. There are better ways to reach the people you need.', but quite frankly this is above my authority as Off Topic mod and it feels rude to just chuck you back to Xavier so I'll sit on the fence and wait for Nate.

In the meantime, constructive criticism about the idea is welcome. Like I said, I just can't see any way that it could work.

Disclaimer: I know hardly nothing about financial and legal kickstarter issues. I'm talking from a common sense perspective.

Look, you can write this off if you want to, and I know I don't have the greatest past on this forum, but in all honesty I love this place, the people who inhabit it every day, the love that a lot of us show for one of the greatest franchises from our childhoods, and everything that we have done to make it an awesome part of our lives. Just the very fact that New 'N Tasty is coming out in less than two weeks is making me more excited than a normal person should, and it's heartbreaking to know that I, along with others, won't be able to experience what we've been speculating, ranting, raving, obsessing, and anticipating about for years now, ever since even the thought of an Abe's Oddysee remake was very slowly making its way into our minds.
Now I don't know how this would even work, but to me, it would be one of the greatest things in my life that I'd be absolutely more than willing to do, and I'm sure there are others who share my sentiment, correct?

Be realistic for a second. Even if you raise the money, what area will you will be covering? How will you be processing applications? How will you be sending out the goods? How will you be able to tell that the person asking for a free games console actually can't afford one?

There are so many expenses to cover, and so many potential pitfalls, that you'd need a community of thousands to make this work. Leave this kind of philanthropy to Reddit.

Look, this isn't about me, and I know damn well that I won't be able to play it any time soon. Frankly, at this point in my life, I'm excited for it, but the prospect is just completely out of my reach, and if I could do something about it so that other people could get the opportunity to actually have their odd dreams come true, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Whilst touching, the idea is unfortunately impractical. Who is going to donate toward someone buying a PS4? If it was to find someone somewhere a place to live, that's understandable. I think there are more pressing problems in the world than someone not being able to play an Oddworld game. The sentiment is nice, but I don't think it would be worth constructing a video in an attempt to raise $15,000 dollars, people just won't bite. I'm scrimping and saving any extra money I have from my job in an attempt to buy a PS4, but I won't be asking anyone online to pay for that any time soon.

In addition to what OANST said, this sounds suspiciously close to charity, which Kickstarter doesn't allow. Also, you would need to prove that you've set up a significant level of organisation (including a legal business entity, paperwork, various bureauracracy) before it was approved.

Nice idea, but you've got to work on it more before setting it up. The video must be the last thing you do for any Kickstarter.

I can't even attempt to encourage going for it through different means because there's just so much shit that can go wrong with it, and frankly for the amount of money you're asking, whether you're being genuine or not that just reads as a massive fucking scam and I doubt anyone would pitch in to fund it
