Can you upload the file so that Nep can copy it into his game directory and edit it?

I think the keys are in numeric codes, but that shouldn't be too much of a hassle to figure out.

For some reason you can't re-map movement directions or gamespeak - They're permanently bound to arrow keys and 1-8, and there isn't an option in "abe.ini" for those. Every other control (jump, sneak, action, etc) can be remapped through options in-game and are saved to the ini.

E: Makes me wonder why Digital Dialect bothered to only give players a partial choice with this. Oh well.

The PC version sounds bad compared to PSX cause it has crappy PSX SPU emulator. However the sprites are at least 50% higher res than the PSX versions. Even the CAMS are higher res 640x240 PC VS 368x240 PSX.

I don't really tend to notice things like mines and levers, to me they're obstacles and things to interact with. The environments are the important things in these games and they look incredible in both versions.

I guess when I look at it in whole, they are not as different as I had perceived them. There are many small differences, but in the end the game seems perfectly wonderful and playable on both versions. If you're a console gamer, than the PS version will probably be more fun, and if your a PC gamer, the PC version will be more fun.

:
I think the better question is, does anyone prefer the version that isn't the one they played first?
I started playing Stranger's Wrath again recently, only this time I'm on the PC. I am noticing, that despite me being a huge PC over console gamer, I much prefer playing stranger with a controller. So I am guessing that someone's first experience is the dictator. Now granted, SW and the Abe games are quite different, and therefore my experience may be irrelevant.

That's not quite a valid comparison. I'm yet to see any 3d platforming game that's even playable with a keyboard, let alone better than a controller.

You might want to try out Croc on PC, then. It actually plays smoother on PC with keyboard controls than the PSX version.

I played through all of Psychonauts with keyboard and mouse, and didn't have any issues with it at all. Not to mention that SW is a large part FPS as well. It does have quite a bit of 3rd person platforming, but I never felt it was very difficult at all.

I played that on PC, and I always thought the controls were awkward at best, so I can only imagine what the PSX must have been like.

As it stands, I never had a PS, so I never played Abe on it. But I will say that I still do find the controls a little unresponsive for PC. Strangely though, I never once noticed it when I was a kid, it's only recently that it's come to my attention.

Those are a special case cause the design changed. However they are still higher res and in this case higher colour depth too. The PC mines/levers are 8bit and PSX are 4bit.

It's odd to see someone get edgy over something as mundane as minor sprite differences in two different versions of a videogame...

Maybe we should give Nep a swear jar when New 'n' Tasty comes out and use the proceeds to get a new version of v-bulletin or something.

Come to think of it, there's a strange thing wherein for the PC version of AO, the running animation for mudokons actually restarts about halfway through, rather than looping properly. I don't know if this is just for my version, but it doesn't seem to be present for the PSX.

PC is definitely most preferable. However, for a speedrun, if the ps1 version wasn't so laggy I would use it because it's much more glitchy; stuff like elum going through walls works here, as well as sligs. Too bad everything else about it is inferior, except maybe the audio in a few cases. I do like the mines in the PS1 version though...

I prefer the PS1 version. I can't stand bad audio, the controls are better, and everything just feels more solid. The graphics aren't as good, but it's not a big enough difference for me to care. If the PC version looked like the screenshots on the box and in the manual then I'd be up for it.

Oh, and I can play the PS1 version on the PSP/Vita. That trumps everything.

For some reason there's some really weird graphical glitches on the PSP version. It's not really a problem, just strange.

Oddysee or Exoddus? I have Exoddus on my PSP and I've yet to see something glitchy.

Both of them. Just little things that weren't in the original, like when Abe walks past a platform, you can see the pulley ropes through him, somehow.

I’ve noticed a couple of minor bugs like that when playing AO on a PS3. My guess is it’s just a limitation of the emulation software they’re using.

Haha I agree, I first played and completed the games on PS1 then PC, after going back to PS1 after many years I don't know how I could even bare to play it the first time due to the huge input lag.

It's weird, but I kinda like the input lag on the PS1 version. Gives everything a little more weighty feel to it (though levers shouldn't have as much lag as they do)
