It seems like I am the only one here who's moaning about the progress of a slow loss of control over personal data. do I appear naive to you? I mean, when I try to dump the "every corporation is bad" attitude and look at the facts, it still worries me.

Microsoft has filed for a Kinect-related patent, and it’s a doozy of an application. The abstract describes a camera-based system that would monitor the number of viewers in a room and check to see if the number of occupants exceeded a certain threshold set by the content provider. If there are too many warm bodies present, the device owner would be prompted to purchase a license for a greater number of viewers.

now I know that there's a lot of bad things on deep web, but this "if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear" argument is twisted imo.

Actively seeking to keep browsing habits private per se, cannot be reason to flag someone for further investigation. Anyway, profiling suspected figureheads, even with anonymous identities, protected by using special software (like TOR), is expected.

But yeah, some creepy stuff going on when it comes to digital projects. Governments and corporations can't seem to handle that they are losing grip on the people because they can't grasp the internet and its communities.

well I guess it's enough by tracing you when you visit a website and download a client. given that you won't use a proxy.

Yeah but the personal information people put on public display there is entered willingly when they sign up. Except that people aren't very clever with the info they submit or aren't aware with what FB is alleged to do with said info.

I've heard of Microsoft putting cameras in their Kinects and having the ability to control them before, from a friend of mine who worked at EB games. I think it sounds like completely ridiculous tinfoil hat bullshit though, as it certainly wouldn't be legal, but you never know.

Yes, big time companies and even the government have really been overstepping their boundaries with the increase of digital technology, but most people won't take people who oppose them seriously. They just quickly dismiss someone who cries out as a paranoid, tin-foil wearing, Coast to Coast AM calling, loon.
