the transparent man
It seems like I am the only one here who's moaning about the progress of a slow loss of control over personal data. do I appear naive to you? I mean, when I try to dump the "every corporation is bad" attitude and look at the facts, it still worries me.
for instance - this one really gives me the creeps http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/13...u-for-the-mpaa :
http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-P...DN/20120278904 or when you think about INDECT, which is a European project - you'll possibly be monitored when you use a TOR client. http://www.indect-project.eu/faq#Q3.8 now I know that there's a lot of bad things on deep web, but this "if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear" argument is twisted imo. :

Well that sucks.

TOR bounces your connection across a dozen servers world wide with the very aim of being untraceable. How the hell do they think they can circumvent a system that has police forces all over the world still puzzled?
But yeah, some creepy stuff going on when it comes to digital projects. Governments and corporations can't seem to handle that they are losing grip on the people because they can't grasp the internet and its communities. |
Surely people would refuse to use products like that if they really did monitor how many people were watching content? That's some serious invasion of privacy.

Yeah but the personal information people put on public display there is entered willingly when they sign up. Except that people aren't very clever with the info they submit or aren't aware with what FB is alleged to do with said info.

Is this shit a joke?

I've heard of Microsoft putting cameras in their Kinects and having the ability to control them before, from a friend of mine who worked at EB games. I think it sounds like completely ridiculous tinfoil hat bullshit though, as it certainly wouldn't be legal, but you never know.
Also I thought this was a thread about ghosts at first. That would be much more interesting. |
They should know better. What has been seen cannot be unseen.
This is Oddworld Forums. Give them a fucking show. |

Yes, big time companies and even the government have really been overstepping their boundaries with the increase of digital technology, but most people won't take people who oppose them seriously. They just quickly dismiss someone who cries out as a paranoid, tin-foil wearing, Coast to Coast AM calling, loon.
Here's 2 articles that come to mind when I think about how 1984 predicted the future- A school gives out laptops to its students, then used built in webcams to spy on them former NSA officer makes claims about government's records There are countless other examples. All you have to do is Google for them. |
I don't think you should compare schools illegally disregarding the human rights of their students to spy on them similar to governments and big businesses trying to sneak through anti-growth bills to protect their own interests. I think in some circles it may make you look like a paranoid, tin foil wearing, Coast to Coast Am calling loon.
