Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus reversed speakers - Is this normal?

Just something I noticed. On the Steam copies of Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus, when I play with the headphones on, I notice something very odd. The left sound channel has the sound coming out of the right sound channel and vice-versa (i.e. A Slig is heard to the left, so you go right. One screen change later, you see the Slig and either run away, or die).

Is the reversing of sound polarity normal, or is there some sort of patch to correct it? I'm sure the cutscenes have the the right sound polarity, only for the gameplay to switch it up.

And your headphones are fine, and work well with other games, and you don't have any software which might it reversed?

I'm asking because it works fine for (as far as I know) everybody, so it's definitely something at your end

I disabled all sound processing features on my soundcard. Stereo works clear on other games and videos, even ran one of those Youtube L-R stereo checks. It's only on these two games I'm getting reversed sound.

Oh, that's indeed a very common card. Well, I got nothing then. You can always wear your headphones the reversed way

That's what I do anyways. It works for me, since the headphones seem to fit either way without any telltale feelings saying 'Hey, you're wearing me wrong'.

Thanks, though.

I believe this is in fact normal, it’s a byproduct of the age of the games (plus other weird compatibility stuff)

Q: The audio is swapped around so left is right, etc!
Known issue, there isn't a known fix. If you want though, you can swap your speakers/headphones around to the other direction but this obviously isn't something we should have to deal with long term.

It's been like this for me since the original CD-ROM version of the game. It's a bug in the PC version, but most people don't notice it.

I can confirm that this is something that's always been an issue in both my old copies of AO and AE. You get used to it after a while.
