Part 10
The smile of the creature was the thing that seemed to make Tobias revel in killing it. Although it had always looked like that and couldn't help it, Tobias always seemed to think that Scrabs were mocking him. It was the way their mouth was formed...it seemed to go up at the sides...making it smile. His 'Partner' had just watched in a nearby tree. Sometimes shouting words of encouragement as Tobias leaped out of its way as the creature charged. The Scrab was a loner, a wanderer. As the Mud (Who's name was Ik*.) and Tobias were making their way to the destination given to them it had sprung out on them, nearly killing Ik*. Mudokons were not known for their speed and thus Tobias had ordered it to scramble up the nearest tree...that it did, with no hesitation. The Okhid seemed to enjoy this little dual, it took his mind off the forboding matters that lay ahead.
Scrabs weren't usually known for their cautious/intelligent behaviour but you usually got some bastard creature who possessed cautiousness and intelligence...they made a bitch to hunt and even the most skilled of hunters could be killed.
Tobias: "Hey...Mud...throw some twigs at it or something...i need it distracted!!"
Ik*: "My names Ik* and i dont have any twigs or stuff!!"
Tobias looked up at the creature be-mused by what it had just said.
Tobias: "Your sat in a tree...YOUR SURROUNDED BY TWIGS!!"
Ik*: "And your loaded with weapons...you can take it out easily!!"
Tobias sighed...it was no use. A simple creature such as a Mudokon could not know how much Orkhids liked a challenge to last.
Tobias: "Just listen to me and do something...make it take its mind off me!! At least for a second or 2!!"
The Mudokon tutted and shouted a couple of things to the Scrab, sometimes throwing a few twigs here and there and rattling the branch above the one he was sat on to make some leaves drift down. The Scrab payed no attention and was more interested in its 'Challenger'. Tobias knew this and backflipped once drawing his knife from his boot. The Scrabs front claws patted the ground, eager to take off into a sprint and yet fearful of been slashed. A couple of screeches came from its lowered head, but still no advance. They were at a stand still...neither of them moving...both of them staring.
Tobias: "Hey...icky...whatever your called. Come down here and get behind me."
Ik*: "ITS IKÍ AND IM NOT COMING ANYWHERE NEAR THE GROUND UNTIL THAT THINGS GONE OR DEAD!!"
Tobias: "And the only way it will be gone or dead is if you come down to the ground and get behind me...!!"
Ik*: "No...you can shoot it...a bullet to the head would easily take it out."
Tobias: "Then fine...you shoot."
Tobias knew full well the Mudokon could not shoot, as if he made any movement for his shotgun which was strapped to his back the branch would snap and he would fall to his death.
Ik*: "You know full well i cant do that!!"
The Orkhid was getting impatient and he wanted to make some progress before night fall...which was getting nearer as they faffed about.
Tobias: "You either come down of your own accord or i will shoot you down now!! You'd be safe anyway...if the creature attacked you, you can shoot it."
He was right, but still...Ik* was very worried...he grabbed hold of the bark and slowly made his way down the tree. Keeping his eye on the vicious monster that was currently in a stand off with his 'Partner'.
Ik*: "It knows what im doing!!"
Tobias: "Every creature in this forest knows what your doing, you've made a big enough fuss about it!!"
A low growl came from one of the two creatures, the Mud didn't know which and didn't really care...so long as he survived long enough to get paid for his job. His feet finally touched the ground and he moved towards Tobias...trying to keep his distance. The Scrab realised this and its eagerness to attack grew. This time it had a secondary prey, one which seemed easier to kill. The Scrab's limbs twitched and one of its front claws took a step toward the Mud. Who, by now, was looking very worried. Tobias could smell his fear and smiled.
Tobias: "Good...now your serving as a decent distraction."
Ik*: "Thats not funny...just hurry up and kill it!!"
The Assassin laughed and put his knife back in his boot and exchanged it for his Silver Magnum. One which was glorified by a very unique pattern on the handle.
Tobias: "Tell me Ik*, what would be your idea of a ideal death?"
The Mudokon's attention suddenly became split, did he keep looking at the Scrab or turn his attention to the Orkhid? Who's gun was now trained on the back of his left knee.
Ik*: "Er...Erm...i dunno...hadn't really thought about it...w-why?"
He was now reaching for his shot gun as he realised the Scrab was slowly but surely moving closer to him. Reaching over his shoulder he fondled the handle of the double barrel shotgun, slowly grasping it.
*Boom*
The sound echoed through the forest and the Scrab jumped backwards snarling at the Orkhid. A sickening crack followed the gunshot as Tobias' bullet shattered the Mudokons knee cap from behind.
Ik*: "Ahhh Shit!!...YOU F*CK TOBIAS...YOU LITTLE FU...!!"
Mudokon's dont really take too kindly to pain, and the fact that Tobias had shot one of the most painfullest regions on the body made Ik* suddenly want to rip his head off. Tobias' lowered his gun and nodded to the Scrab. The predator did not know what to make of this...its challenger sacrificing its hunting partner...why? The question soon disapeared out of its head as it moved forwards and looked at the injured Mud. Who, by luck, had dropped its gun and was holding on to its blood spurting knee. The jaws of the Scrab opened and violently jerked into its prey, tearing its chest open and guzzling at its, still sqirming, food. It went to take another bite and savour the taste of the beating heart but as it did another gunshot echoed through the forest and the Scrab dropped lifelessly to the ground. Twitching. Tobias smiled and holstered his gun.
"Your a good decoy Ik*...you served me well."
He laughed coldly as he turned from the corpses and wandered off towards his destination. Sometimes referring to the map.
~End~
