I was wondering if it was possible to make an oddworld game similar to Metroid style using the level editor? Such as you explore the world and find ways to break into factories and finding switches to turn off electric walls so you can deeper into the factories/barracks/breweries?
Yes that would be possible, but it would take a long time to make probably. Would probably have to be made with r2.lvl because in terms of space to work with that is the biggest .lvl file.

Using switches with Id values over 255 (if I remember correctly), you could activate electric walls from another level (I think I read something about this from Paul a long time ago, correct me if i'm wrong ^^). So yeah, it would probably be possible but the level select cheat would be useless then.
Edit: And the muds would come back each time you reenter a level, making the status board useless too....

I think the best way to get round the mudokons from returning is to do a Feeco hub, however that would prevent back tracking as you would have to permanently close doors when the area is completed so the status board wouldn't become useless. But it would be slightly annoying if you missed a hidden switch to save all muds in the final factory.
Sky I do a test and it's possible ! Don't miss to do a sort of executive office in BW with a switch/slig security phone and I will give you the ID to use wich can deactive an electric wall. And to access in Rupturefarm you have to finish :

well I'm guessing it's because they never programmed a proper response for them, they probably never expected anyone to start modding the game. So why should they?
there's no area in the game that has something like that as well.

I suppose it's like xXxrenhoekxXx said, you never encounter anything like it in the game so it would just make sense to ignore it in programming to save time.
Much like modern games if you go outside maps it'll be really glitchy and have little to no collision detection because you're not supposed to encounter it so they don't program it.
I do see the point in making it darker, it's better than any cam ever made.
Because no matter how you do a black screen, it always looks professional.

Oh and xXxrenhoekxXx, I tried to get through your level (;P )but I got stuck in a wall (X1&2: 4375 Y1:726) in E1P01C08 by doing a run jump from the edge of E1P01C11. But anyway, nice level ^^.

NEW EDIT : Great new ! Sky, do you know why it doesn't work ? (To place electric wall CAMs)
First : My folder was named r2.lvl (not r2)
Second : I don't edit CAM id
