Hit level 13 last night. At that awkward phase where I'm not leveled enough to have good loot drop, and am too broke to really afford it. Accepted the quest to go meet the grey beards, haven't done it. Been dungeon crawling, misc quest killing, and generally exploring. Joined the thieves guild and Dark Brotherhood. Still love the game.

Bit out of the loop since I never played Oblivion (I did play Morrowind).
Sounds like they made some interesting changes. I like the dragons, that seems like a cool aspect. How does everyone compare it with Oblivion?

Way better. The combat feels like you're actually hitting someone with a weapon instead of hitting nothing, the difficulty is nicely set, the graphics/character animations/design and voice acting is much improved, and the magic/spells are way prettier. The dragon combat is sort of meh so far, but I've only fought the one that's a part of the main story line, and all others I've encountered refuse to land despite being pelted with arrows. I'm assuming it's because I need to do the gray beard quest, but I don't really know. At one point I was wandering and being followed by two airborn dragons who perpetually circled above me and screeched/roared, but didn't attack. It was pretty neat.

My only problem with Skyrim so far, albeit a small one that I'll probably get over, is that it's like playing a Fallout game with swords. It just has that Fallout feel to it, no?

Pretty much. But I remember most people calling fallout 'Oblivion with guns', so round and round we go.

True story, but I never made that connection with Fallout and Oblivion. Skyrim is different, the lock picking, armor/weapon augmentation/creation, map and various other things just makes it feel so much like Fallout. Don't get me wrong, I like both series.

I like Skyrim better than the recent fallout games. A lot better, actually. Skyrim just has a lot more depth and feels more immersive than fallout to me. Which is weird since Fallout is more 'realistic' in its plot/gameplay/story. I don't know, it's probably just me being totally biased. I loved Morrowind, thought Oblivion was kind of meh. Man, Morrowind. I remember my friend Anthony and I playing that non-stop, multiple play throughs..It was awesome. When I'd go to his house on the weekend I'd bring my smallish tv and xbox, and we'd both play our separate games next to each other for ages.

It was great. Especially when I'd find something in my game and he'd go to the exact location in his and find something completely different. Although he was the one who found the Daedric Crescent, which had to be my favorite/best weapon in Morrowind. Used the hell out of that thing.

I traveled about a quarter of the map today, making an epic journey to a mysterious watchtower. Fought my first troll along the way, and found an Imperial camp near the small village of Ivanstead. Not sure if I will join them or the rebellion yet. When I arrived to my destination, I was met with a fierce frost dragon, that took many an arrow to take down. Victory was had though, and I received a new shout. Once my journey was done, I stopped back into Ivanstead for some much needed mead.

Also, a drug dealer was killed by a saber cat on the journey. He will be missed.

Well my friend came over today to help me with my glitch problem. Thankfully he got it unstuck after talking to one of the other non-important grey beards(could have sworn i already tried that but what ever, just glad it's over). So now i'm finally on track and can start enjoying the game again. Also, i've noticed NPCs are strong enough to kill a giant in only a few hits but can't hurt a dragon in the slightest. Yet you can kill as many dragons as you want but still get your ass.

I've now discovered 100+ locations and holy hell is the map huge! I also accidentally joined the thieves' guild, the dark brotherhood and the companions clan. I think I just randomly chose the right dialogue options, but whatever. Got some achievements for joining them.

Why the hell couldn't I have been Sabre-Cat-born? Forget dragons. Those are the deadliest things out there.

I've killed three dragons so far, and I didn't get killed by any of them. That may have been because I had help. The last one was attacking the farms outside Whiterun, and the NPCs arrows are better than mine.

But the second one "I" killed was a bit of a story. There's a house perhaps a click East-North-East of Whiterun which I entered to say hello to whatever poor bastard lives so far out. In moments I set upon by an extremely powerful mage. I feild the house, but he followed me, shooting fireballs that impacted like a small nuclear bomb. It saved just when I left the house, so I frequently found myself dead and restarting in the shit. I ran up a hill, doing my best to dodge fireballs, and was quickly set upon by two sabre-cats while still being attacked by the mage. I was about ready to drop to my knees and curse the gods, when a dragon dropped down and ate one of the cats. My emotions were mixed. "Yes! Another dragon to get!" "Yes! Take that, cat!" "Shit! A dragon! Now? I have no health, magicka or stamina. Curse you, gods!"

Fortunately the mage's fireballs were pretty effective, quickly giving me the chance to land the killing blow, absorb its soul, steal it's bones and scales and get the fuck out of there before the mage finished me off. I was, of course, immediately killed by the second cat.

I had to kill that dragon three times before it finally stuck.

Fucking cats.

These Dark Brotherhood gits are a bunch of real amateurs. I, quite by accident, successfully sneaked up on and assassinated a man who turned out to be an assassin sent after me.

I don't know who sent him. It might have had something to do with all the guards I killed in Markarth. I tell you, one drinking contest in Whiterun and the next thing you know you're waking up in a temple on the other side of Skyrim being accused of trashing it in a drunken revelry. Then you leave, witness a brutal murder, get hired to investigate it, uncover a hideous conspiracy, get stitched up for a bunch of murders by that conspiracy, fight your way out of the city and just for fun, get set upon by a bloody dragon the moment you get out.

I only wanted a drink.

I gloriously, courageously and cunningly killed my first giant. Minus the glory, cunning and courage.

I seen a bonfire and a figure beside it, I thought to myself, 'Hey, I must go and investigate this immediately.' I went down and the figure wasn't some illusion of the flat plains with no end in sight and he really was a giant fucker. As he lurched at me with joy and murderous intent in his eyes I hightailed it out of there, not before I equipped my bow and started turning that cunt into a giant, smelly pincushion. Not fifteen minutes after the duel was initiated I stood proudly above the fallen beast with the spoils of war; 117 gold and boots, that should really have never fit me in the first place.

I decided not to dance with the mammoths.

You just have to use the terrain to your advantage. Mammoths are easy if you can keep to ridges that they struggle to climb, or get up in a fort. Fort Greymoor has some great platforms that the mammoths can't climb, and when they get close enough you can even hit them with a sword. Though they can gore you back at that range, so step away after.

I go with fire.

With giants I just lead them to the gates of White-run so the guards can help.

Earlier today I was heading out to kill a dragon at a tower for a misc. quest. On my way I passed through an Imperial camp, made nice, and marched onward. Then two bears popped out of nowhere and started attacking me. I used my sprint-shout and lead them back to the imperial camp. Other than one of the soldiers dying, they made quick work of the bears. So I start heading back toward the tower/dragon, and a god damned sabre cat plus a wolf are on me. Back to camp, problem solved. I thought about trying to lead the dragon to them, but that felt like cheating. So I pelted it with a ton of arrows until it crashed, then made short work of it with my sword/dagger combo.

fun.

One of my biggest issues with this game are the mountains, or rather how you traverse them. Too often I apparently chose the wrong side of the mountain to try to climb up and am forced to try to jump and sprint my way up the slope, or look at the map in an attempt to try to find a path way. Often I will circle the mountain until I find one, which can take terribly long. It wasn't that big of an issue at first, but it happens so much and takes so long to over come, it gets annoying as shit.

Agreed. I remember loving the hills/mountains in Morrowind because jumping up/off them was a super fast way to increase your acrobatics.

I've now made a lot of progress in the main quest and I got a daedric artifact. The daedra item is called The Masque of Clavicus Vile. The quest for that item was awesome. Also, the main quest got a bit more interesting just now... One thing I really hate is that I may have to end up killing Paarthurnax in order to continue the story... :(

I'm about to join the Stormcloaks, though I'm a bit ticked off at their casual racism and the apartheid of my fellow Argonians in Windhelm. The Empire's been nothing but trouble for Black Marsh, but I wonder if Ulfric can be trusted to treat non-Nords fairly? Already I tire of being called "You! Lizard!" "Yeah? Fuck you too, lady!"

If you get this note, don't sleep. Don't sleep.

I'm printing this and throwing it in mailboxes of Skyrim players.

So... what happens when you do sleep?

And how did you come to receive it? Kill a kid? Did you and that Graymane girl beat that poor Lars kid to death? Bastard.

Can't even remember really. It had something to do with Windhelm, Dark Brotherhood and the Arentino kid.

Oh, and when you sleep after you get that note, you'll wake up in an abandoned shack with an unpleasant guest.
