Elums are no-more

Hey, did anyone notice that in Abe's Exoddus and Munch's Oddysee, that they're are no Elums? The only transportation in AE, is - Mine carts and the FreeCo train-

Elums will be back, trust me. The reason they weren't in the other games was because there wasn't much use for them on the count of the story lines. But I can assure you that Elums will be back, they play an important role in gameplay. :smifuz:

Well, In AE there werent any enviroments that Elums would be of use. Both of the Mud-Vaults were too complicated with roling. And there were tooo many scrabs, paramites, and fleeches in thoses "native" levels. Even in Necrum(too mant Fleeches.

And what would the chance be of Abe riding an Elum in SoulStorm Brewry , FreeCo. Deepot, Boneworks, Slig Barrcks, and Necrum Mines? Too INDUSTRIAL-kinds of levels.

I think It's kinda nice not having the Elums in Ae cause we need new creatures and if we had the same one every time, that would be boring.

It was a good idea to remove elum for a while, seems like a lot of people are missing him :sadfuz: I know i am.

When he returns he should be able to do more things. and he should neva lose his addiction to honey, it ads character

You are so right! When I first played Abe's Oddysee and observed the Elum's fixation with honey, I chortled in amusement - who would have thought of such a novel idea! It's realistic while at the same time being quirkey - a relationship that explained my love of Oddworld.

Elum might be nice to have back. I could understand why he doesn't work well in 3-D, his main purpose was to jump pits but in 3-D u cudd just walk by them. Maybe there should be a chase scene with Elum. Scrabs chasing u wile on Elum... that wudd be cool

ELums are really cool. They probably return in ME and Hand of Odd.

Spoiler.

In the last level of munch there are dead elums in a Vykker disecting room with an auditoruim with seats surrounding it. I thought it was sorta gross because they had revomed the guts.

What I always thought was that Elum provided too much of an advantage- Abe was never supposed to move fast or jump very far, he has to use his brain. His physical limitations are what make him that much more of a good hero character. It was kind of dissapointing, then, in MO to see abe jumping all over the place like mad and taking multiple hits before dying- at least Munch is still pretty feeble. I still like their idea of having Munch ride around in your backpack, making noise when he's hungry and weighing you down- the more disadvantages you have, the bigger underdog you are, and the better dramatic value.
Anyway, back to the subject at hand, I guess it would make sense to bring back Elums, but maybe not interactively. Have them as background creatures, like prey for a herd of scrabs in a cinematic. Not every scrap of life on Oddworld has to be playable at all times. Or, have some big Star Wars Episode one-esque war sequence with Mudokens riding them, or using them as pack animals - that would figure in very nicely to hand of Odd, as, from what I've heard, it's more of a sim-like strategy game (Probably more like Warcraft or something, but you get the gist)
In short, I think Elum as a tool like the mine cart for Abe to use is probably a thing of the past, just like we probably wont be seeing fleeches again as enemies in an action level sense of things, but it's not like they're extinct and will never be refferred to again.
Whoo, that was a long one.

One idea if fleeches returned is there could be a plant you have to find to repel them or something..

I agree that Abe's weakness was his charm. But I won't get started ranting about MO, because I'll never stop...

Hand of Odd, from what I've heard, is most definately not a Warcraft-style RTS game. From what OWI have said, it's about the Daily Lives of Oddworld's Inhabitants. No Wars. No Revolutions. Just the Daily Grind...

ah, so it is more like a sim. Of course, we all know it's futile to try to label the oddworld games.
Okay, just so it's said, I liked the old forums site much more, and I want my name to go back to the way it used to be. There, I've said it, now I'm done being pissy :fuzzlesmi

Elum was the bomb; I got really excited whenever I saw one in the game, but now that's just a small sacrifice for a new part of the Oddworld series...however, it would be nice to have him back!

Yeah, elum DID kick ass! My first wonder was whether Abe was using the same one, just transported around, or a different elum.
On another note, I think that having elum in MO just for a small moment was a great idea on OWI's part. Sure, it was gross, but it added a bit of reality. In our world, we would see the corpses of species that hadnt even been seen in the "game". I can't wait until the games amass such biodiversity that you hardly see the same animal twice, like our world. Elum, i agree, was a tool with a heart, and brought alot to AO. His behavior and mannerisms made me laugh and feel even more sorry for Abe. As for the more "fit" Abe, I blame it on mixing those damn healthy natives with sickly slaves. He was bound to learn a few flips. Ive never heard the idea about Munch being in Abe's back-pack or the fleech repel. Whoever knows where I can find this info, please do tell!

elem was the best, but i guess MO has a wheelchair so thats enough. Abe should have only one elum thats just lazy and likes to piss off abe... but that sounds too much like a character from a cartooon, still good idea if they are going to make one.
