Getting abe's oddysey to work on modern pc

hi there,

i recently purchased this game after having on ps1 years ago. however i was very disappointed to see that the graphics on pc are very blurry.

i remember the graphics were the best part of the game, fantastic backgrounds, cut scenes etc. the game just doesn't feel the same without it.

anyone know how to configure the game or the computer so it runs properly?

thanks

This is just a guess... but new computers have higher resoulutions, so when you run AO or AE on the computer, the pc has to enlarge the game screen, which reduces picture quality. You might have played it years ago on a ps1 - tv screen which does look better as you are not as close to the screen . Just a guess (but my guesses are very nearly always right)

Thats just what 640x240 upscaled to 640x480 looks like I'm afraid! Also the PS1 resolution is even LOWER! It runs at something like 368x240.

Run it in a window or get another monitor.

I think you'll just have to sit away from the screen. Wireless keyboard or something? lol

Given that you're in Australia, I wouldn't recommend the PS3 PSN version if you care about graphics. My guess is that they've ported the original NTSC version to both USA and EU PSN stores, rather than porting the PAL version for EU. It has terrible letterboxing to fill the standard screen size.

And to answer your actual question; the graphics are pre-rendered, so they can only provide the resolution that was originally developed for the game.

Alright, here we go....

I have just finished version 0.1 of my Oddworld Games Patch.
It is very slow, but it manages to work.

Run the patch while the game is running.
I will assure you this works on Abe's Exoddus. But it might not on Oddysee.

WARNING!!! THIS WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU EXPRIENCE THE FOLLOWING!!

1. When you start the game, you can hear the game music, but cannot see anything.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

You also require the .NET framework from Microsoft.

If this program helps you, Im glad it did, if not, PM me your issues, and Im happy to help .

Can you explain what your patch does, how it works, why you posted it in a thread that has nothing to do with it and why the heck it has to be run whist the game is already running?
