Question New 'n' Tasty - Mudokon Pops

In the original Abe's Oddysee, the Mudokon Pop plan is a picture of a severed mudokon head on a spear. I have seen images, however of a happier version and it turns out it was the Japanese version. Why did they make it happier? Aren't the Japanese tough enough to handle an animated alien head on a stick with no blood or anything. I've never found it disturbing, my 9 year old brother doesn't find it disturbing, why do the Japanese?

It was something to do with the Japanese meat-packing sub-class, just like Abe loosing a finger between AO and AE.

I did read something about Abe losing a finger, yes. 'twas was a while ago though. It still doesn't make sense to me. I'll look up the meat packing class.

EDIT: Okay, I looked it up. It makes sense.

I don't think the 'nicer' Mudokon Pop picture was about the meat packing class. I think it just happened at the same time as the fingers, so people assumed they were related.

No, I'm pretty sure I read it in their art book, however they might have also done it to show how marketing makes their corporate image seem different than what they really do, so it helped put more satire towards our capitalist world.

I would totally cite it in MLA format, but I hate doing that, and in my time zone it's about 1:15 AM when this edit was made.

I thought the meat packaging thing was about lower-class meat factory workers in Japan who everyone disrespected and many of them had 4 fingers due to work-related accidents. Giving someone a 4 fingered gesture would be the same as calling them one of the meat workers. How has a mudokon head got anything to do with this?

Many things are related to the meat packing sub-class, the Japanese saw this as a relation to it probably because of it's gory nature, possibility of it happening as an accident, the 4 finger thing already occurring, and the fact that Abe worked in a meat plant thing.

The book didn't cover much, it just said that it was another issue with the meat packing sub-class, and they didn't cover it more than that because they had already covered the 4 finger issue in the book.

You misread the book. What it says is "Due to Japanese current events (Another long story that we don't have time to tell)...", which clearly implies that it's something seperate to the meat-packing issue.

I haven't got the book, though I've been wanting it for a long time. So, now no one knows why they changed the Mudokon Pops?
Sounds suspicious ...

Oops, well it could have been a meat packing thing, but I guess they would have said so to save space if it was, I haven't read that thing in a long time, I think I'll re-read it tomorrow.

They changed it because it was too graphical/gory for the Japanese audience...or somthing like that.

Was Oddworld very popular in Japan? I see it as a very western game, and wouldn't see it as appealing to the asians.

That was an advert, though. Hardly a spontaneous display of affection.

They did bring their audience to Asia, I believe Japan specifically with Abe-A-GoGo, am I right Nate?

Are you right about what? That the Japanese advert that Slag? posted for Abe-A-Gogo was developed in order to sell the game Abe-A-Gogo to Japanese people?

That might just be a safe assumption.

I've always found it funny that depicting children in an erotic way is perfectly fine in Japanese culture, but a frozen, bloody head on a spike is simply too much for them to handle.

The original Mudokon Pop was a working design that Molluck presented to the Glukkons. The actual advert differed from this to make it more appealing to the Khanzumerz, although what the treat truly looked like remains unknown.

I just don't know why they would even bother to change it to a happier design. There are definitely worse things than that in Japan. Since Molluck didn't actually release the Mudokon Pops, we don't actually know what they look like, so yeah.
